Cancer-focused Summer Undergraduate Research (CanSUR)

This Case Comprehensive Cancer Center Research opportunity gives students a chance to work with renowned cancer researchers. The program begins with a week of interactive cancer research lectures to provide a foundational understanding of cancer biology and the latest cancer research. Students will then begin their mentored research experience, for which they will present the results of at the symposium during the final week.

A stipend is provided for the 10-weeks of the program from June to August.

Applications are due January 13, 2023.

REU Internship at the University of Akron

Applications are still open for the 2022 summer research experience for the School of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering at the University of Akron internship. This competitive program is sponsored by the National Research Foundation, the University of Akron, and corporate sponsors.

The program will take place over the course of 9 weeks, during which students will investigate a fundamental question within the broad disciplines of polymer science and polymer engineering. This includes chemistry, physics, characterization, and biomaterials. Interns will take part in research and career development activities, discussions outlining their research progress, and visits to regional companies. The program will come to a close with an oral or poster presentation of the intern’s research results at the Northeast Ohio NSF-REU Undergraduate Research Conference.

Support includes a $5,400 stipend and on campus housing.

The program will run from Monday, June 6 to Friday, August 5.

The deadline to apply is Friday, February 11, 2022. Further information such as how to apply and eligibility can be found here.

Undergraduate Chemistry Research Opportunities

Looking for summer research opportunities? The University of Minnesota’s Lando/NSF program is now taking applications and is open to undergraduate sophomores and juniors. This 10 week program will run from June 1 – August 7, 2020.

With a $7,400 stipend and $400 allotted for travel, fellows will work under a chemistry faculty member at the Minneapolis branch. This program is a great opportunity for undergraduate students to get involved with research, helping them succeed in post graduate work. Along with research supported by the National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU), the program also includes various professional and social events allowing students to make connections and meet new people.

Applications are due February 3, 2020 and can be found along with more information, including costs, at https://chem.umn.edu/lando

REU: Nanoscale Assembly of Molecules and Materials

The colors of butterfly wings, the strength of an abalone shell, and the adhesive properties of gecko feet arise from the arrangement of smaller building blocks which comprise these structures. REU students at Indiana University Bloomington will engage in in-depth study of materials chemistry and, in particular, how materials assemble from smaller entities (atoms and molecules) into larger structures and the function of assembled forms. The projects for REU students include both synthesis and characterization of materials and their building blocks, with opportunities for students with interests in all areas of chemistry.

Students in the program will engage in a 10-week summer research experience beginning in May 2020. They will participate in weekly career development discussions and visit local companies such as Eli Lilly and CRANE Naval Surface Warfare Center.

Participants will receive a $500 per week stipend, a travel allowance up to $500, on-campus housing, and a meal allowance.

More information is available on their website and flyer.

Applications will open in November and are due January 31, 2020.
