Open Research Technician Position

There is an opening for a research technician in the Gale Group at the Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging at Massachusetts General Hospital/ Harvard Medical School starting June 2022. They are seeking a recent college graduate with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. This position is ideal for an ambitious chemist with plans to attend graduate or medical school within 2-3 years.

The technician will be primarily responsible for physicochemical characterization of new transition metal complexes. There are also opportunities to engage in chemical synthesis, bioanalytical chemistry, molecular biology, and/or MR imaging studies.

Entry-Level Research Chemist Position

PPG Specialty Synthesis Group is seeking an entry-level Research Chemist for their process development team located in Monroeville, PA. The research chemist’s principal responsibility is developing a robust synthesis and purification method for novel OLED emitters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop scalable synthetic processes for OLED emitters that are reproducible and cost effective through a thorough scientific approach.
  • Evaluate the synthesis for new emitters as they are identified. Provide samples using a commercially feasible synthetic strategy.
  • Advance technology used in the laboratory to improve process development understanding and reduce cycle times (EasyMax/Optimax, EasyViewer).
  • Analyze and interpret analytical results and make process changes as necessary.
  • Provide support for scale up of new products by technicians in both a kilo lab and plant setting.
  • Help support existing commercial as well as pre-commercial and developmental products.
  • Support the use of quality tools (critical thinking, DOE, statistical analysis etc.) as applicable in the development of new processes.
  • Hands-on laboratory experiments using common chemistry equipment and instruments (HPLC, UPLC, GC).
  • Effectively communicates within the work team and provides clear and concise documentation of technical results.
  • Works in a safe manner. Reads, understands and follows all pertinent SOPs.

Biochemical Markers Fellowship at CDC (Recent Graduates)

About DLS: The Division of Laboratory Sciences (DLS) of the National Center for Environmental Health (NCEH) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)  is seeking applicants for a Biochemical Markers Fellowship opportunity. DLS uses advanced laboratory science and innovative techniques to improve the detection, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of environmental, tobacco-related, nutritional, newborn, selected chronic and selected infectious diseases. DLS also works to improve the rapid and accurate detection of chemical threat agents, radiologic threat agents, and selected toxins.

Projects: Participants will join laboratory teams to develop and apply analytical methods to characterize and quantify biochemical markers, including those in biologic specimens (such as serum or urine), that are relevant to disease and harmful exposures. DLS currently has more than 170 active methods and 230+ mass spectrometers in use.

Selected candidates will be placed in one of seven branches within DLS (see website for branch information.) They will gain hands-on experience using state-of-the-art laboratory instrumentation and automation equipment. DLS offers a stimulating research environment that enables ORISE fellows to gain practical experience in applied analytical chemistry and enhance their knowledge of public health.

Qualifications: Applicants should be Bachelor’s or Master’s graduates with degrees in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, or Microbiology. Must be a U.S. citizen.

The program will run Sept 15, 2021 – Sept 12, 2022. The stipend for Bachelor’s fellows will be approx. $3,800 montly.
