Virtual Career Fair for internships and fellowships with DoD

Join the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) on January 18, 2023, from 12 to 3 p.m. ET for a virtual career fair highlighting STEM internship and fellowship opportunities for college students and postgraduates at U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) research facilities around the country!

During the fair, attendees will have the chance to:

  • Connect with ORISE program staff in 1-on-1 chats

Keynote Presentation: Dr. Victor Convertino, senior scientist with the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research, will give a live presentation at the event. His talk is scheduled to begin at 12:15 p.m. ET.

2023 Summer Internship at UC San Diego/Scripps Institution of Oceanography/Marine Physical Laboratory


The University of California San Diego Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Marine Physical Laboratory is offering a summer internship program for those considering applying to graduate school and are interested in a career path of oceanography or contemplating a career in scientific research and development. First, second, or third year undergraduate students majoring in oceanography, applied mathematics, engineering, physics, chemistry, biology, geology, and related majors are encouraged to apply.

This is a 10-week internship and allows students to work with some of the most notable scientists in the world and learn about marine science and technology while earning a modest salary. Interns will be working 40 hours per week at a salary of $16.30/hour and includes a $6,000 (taxable) stipend.

The application deadline is 4 P.M. Pacific time on January 13, 2023. Applicants may be notified as early as February and all applicants will have been notified by the end of April.

Indianapolis Teaching Fellows

Indianapolis Teaching Fellows (ITF) is an opportunity for individuals from all backgrounds and disciplines to obtain teaching certification in one year while working full-time at one of its 70+ partner schools in Indianapolis. Since 2007, TIF has trained over 700 teachers reaching 56,000 students in schools across center township.

Fellows receive in-depth coaching, grounded in research and evidence-based practices that impact teacher practice and increase student achievement.

Work for CBC: Prep Lab Assistant

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is currently accepting applications for Lab Assistants in the General Chemistry Prep Lab for Spring 2023! Lab Assistant positions provide students with the opportunity to work in an active laboratory space, network with peers with similar goals, and learn valuable customer service skills applicable to many careers. Students employees may have the opportunity to take on a leadership role.

In order to apply, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Completed all General Chemistry (1000 level) courses required for your major
  • Cumulative GPA > 3.2
  • Enrolled in classes during Spring 2023
  • No other paid monthly student appointment during Spring 2023 (this includes paid research)

Appointment details are as follows:

  • Salary: $10/hour
  • Hours: 10-18/week
  • Responsibilities: preparation and distribution of reagents, distribution and maintenance of lab equipment, etc.
  • Mandatory paid training will begin on January 9th.

Career Accelerator Fund

The Career Accelerator Fund (CAF) provides financial support for College of Arts and Sciences students participating in unpaid or minimally paid internships, undergraduate research, or experiential learning opportunities.

The application deadline for Spring 2023 opportunities is November 30, 2022. The application requires multiple doucments, so don’t delay if you want to apply. You can learn more on the CAF website.

Campus Job: DLC Undergraduate Academic Coach

Application Deadline: November 14, 2022

The Dennis Learning Center is hiring academic coaches to start in spring semester 2023. Undergraduate students in all majors and years are welcome to apply.

Academic Coaches work with other undergraduate students to understand their academic concerns and develop strategies to help them be successful. Academic Coaches also facilitate workshops for groups of students on a variety of topics, such as study strategies, test taking, procrastination, time management, and resilience.

The DLC is looking for a few key qualities:

  1. Genuine empathy for all students
  2. An interest in the topics relevant to academic coaching: motivation, study skills, academic stress and anxiety, procrastination, time management, etc.
  3. The confidence and interest to develop as public speakers (with training)
  4. Professionalism and conscientiousness to work independently

Academic Coaches receive training in all aspects of the position and will be expected to work 10-15 hours per week for $13/hour.

DAAD Rise Germany Internships

The OSU Undergraduate Fellowship Office would like to help CBC students with the DAAD-RISE program.

RISE (Research Internships in Science and Engineering) Germany offers an incredible opportunity for sophomores and juniors to participate in a summer research internship at top German universities and research institutions.

What is the DAAD-RISE program?

Students are matched with a German host university or institute according to their area of interest (chemistry, biology, etc). DAAD provides students a monthly stipend for three months to help cover living expenses. Host universities, universities of applied sciences (UAS), and institutes provide housing assistance. UAS will also match students with Ph.D. student mentors or researchers. Knowledge of German language is NOT REQUIRED. The working language will be English.

Who is eligible?

Undergraduate students who:

  • are currently enrolled in biology, chemistry, computer science, physics, earth sciences, or engineering (or a closely related field)
  • have completed at least 2 years of a undergraduate degree program by the time of the internship placement
  • can prove that they will maintain undergraduate status after the internship has taken place

Because of these eligibility requirements, usually current sophomores and juniors apply.

Apply to be a General Chemistry TA in Spring 2023

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is currently accepting applications for General Chemistry TA positions for Spring 2023. A TA position provides the opportunity to improve your knowledge, gain teaching experience, and help students.

In order to apply, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Completed General Chemistry Sequence (1210/1220; 1610/1620; or 1910H/1920H) with an A or A- (preferred)
  • Cumulative GPA > 3.2
  • Enrolled in classes during Spring 2023
  • No other paid monthly student appointment during Spring 2023 (this includes paid research)

Appointment details are as follows:

  • Salary: $12/hour
  • Hours: 10-12/week
  • Responsibilities: teach one 3-hour lab; grade assignments and prepare for teaching responsibilities; 1 office hour/week; proctor all exams; attend weekly staff meeting

Training will take place on January 8th in the afternoon. Please describe any potential conflicts with training on your application.

National Security Agency Internship Webinar

One of the best ways to get your foot in the door for a full-time job at the National Security Agency (NSA) is to land a summer internship. Recruiters are sharing just about everything there is to know about NSA student programs at a webinar on Thursday, Sept. 8, at 4pm EST.

The program is open to students of all ages and majors, but it will focus internship and Co-op opportunities for college students. You will hear directly from NSA employees on the great opportunities the agency has to offer. They will discuss the NSA’s mission, which is all about protecting the nation, as well as the skills they’re seeking, from computer science and engineering to business, foreign language analysis and human resources. A question-and-answer period will wrap up the session.

Open Position: WVSU Academic Lab Manager

West Virginia State University is seeking a dedicated candidate for the position of Academic Lab Manager III for the Department of Chemistry and Physics. This is a non-classified, non-exempt, full time, benefits eligible position. This position assists the faculty within the department to set up and conduct teaching laboratories as well as maintain the departmental laboratories safety, hygiene, and records.

WVSU serves approximately 3,500 students. It is located in Institute, WV, a suburb of Charleston, the largest city and the capital of West Virginia. With more than 300,000 people living in the metropolitan area, it is an active, exciting and engaging community, boasting cultural and historical events, music, festivals and entertainment.
