Carnegie Mellon Diversity Opportunity

Applications are now open for Carnegie Mellon’s Data Analytics for Science Immersion Experience! This 10-day experience will take place from June 5th to June 14th. This workshop is in partnership with Microsoft and DOW and will allow students to work with faculty from the Mellon College of Science. The program also aims to support students from underrepresented groups.

Opportunities through this program include:

  • Data analytic seminars, providing training in modern bioinformatics
  • Meet with and ask questions to partners from Microsoft and DOW
  • Tour DOW headquarters in Michigan

Room and board are provided along with travel expenses and a $500 stipend.

  • Chemistry: currently Sophomore/Junior Standing – cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Chemical Engineering: Sophomore/Junior Standing – cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Microbiology: Sophomore/Junior Standing – cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Computer Information Science: Freshman/Sophomore/Junior/Senior Standing – cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Computer Science & Engineering: Freshman/Sophomore/Junior Standing – cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher

The recruitment opportunity will take place Wednesday, September 7th at the Blackwell Inn Ballroom between the hours of 4:30 and 7:00 p.m.

Open House Invite OSU 2016

ASA DataFest

On April 9 and 10, the Data Analytics major is hosting the ASA DataFest, which is free to all undergraduate students who are interested in working with Big Data.

DataFest is a collaborative competition where undergraduate students from Ohio State can gather to tackle a data challenge beyond the scope of what has been encountered in the classroom.

Students can work in teams of up to five and are encouraged to select teammates skilled in a wide variety of data analysis.

This event will also be an opportunity to network with co-sponsor companies such as P&G Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation, Ford Motor Company GDI&A, Victoria’s Secret, PwC, Capital One Tech, TDA @ OSU, Prevedere, Google, and Data Comp.
