UPenn REU: Catalyst Research Development and Molecular Dynamics

Application Deadline: February 1, 2024

The University of Pennsylvania Department of Chemistry is accepting applications for its REU titled, “Novel Techniques and Applications in Catalyst Research Development and Molecular Dynamics” (CatResDev). This is a 10-week summer research experience.

The CatResDev REU research areas span a significant space across catalysis: method development, catalyst development, and synthetic applications, as well as extension into molecular dynamics and beyond. CatResDev exposes REU students to high throughput experimentation (HTE) techniques that are unique to Penn Chemistry and currently in high demand. Exposure to HTE provides a distinct experience for undergraduates with long-term leverage into both academic and industrial pathways.

While working on their projects, students will learn the fundamentals of success in science via training, mentoring, and industrial partnerships.  Programs focus on research safety, professional development, networking, and the opportunity to learn from one another and leading experts in the field.

More information is available on the program website.

The Paper Trail UG Research Symposium

The Paper Trail is an online, open-community journal club. Their mission is to create an informal space for scientists to discuss recent, groundbreaking studies with people of all ages and backgrounds.

The Paper Trail Undergraduate Research Symposium will be held virtually on November 1, 2023. It is an opportunity for undergraduate trainees to share their work, with a particular focus on trainees from groups traditionally underrepresented in STEM.

This symposium is for undergraduates who are planning to apply for graduate school* to share their research with an audience that includes professors looking to hire new graduate students.

*with the intention of starting grad school in Fall 2024

The event will include undergraduate research presentations, as well as timeslots for short lab overview presentations from faculty members interested in recruiting new graduate students. An event schedule is available on the symposium webpage.

Another goal of the symposium is to serve as an alternative to large society meetings that happen this time of year (e.g., BMES and AIChE) but are often difficult to attend because of any number of financial, personal, familial, or professional hurdles. There is potential for vouchers for graduate school application fees. Presenters will also be offered gift cards for lunch.

The deadline for abstract submissions is Thursday, October 12 at 11:59 PM Pacific Time.

OSU Clinical Trials Sciences Certificate

The biopharmaceutical and healthcare research industries are growing at a rapid pace, yet there is a critical shortage of clinical research professionals to manage the human subjects research activities required to move new therapies through development and to patients.

The Clinical Trials Sciences certificate prepares students who have an interest in human subjects’ research regulations, study conduct, management, data coordinating and leadership with a broad foundation of knowledge and skills needed to pursue careers in clinical research.

Jobs in clinical trials study management include: clinical research assistant, clinical research coordinators, data managers, regulatory affairs officers and more.

The Clinical Trials Sciences certificate program consists of four courses with a total of 13 undergraduate credit hours, offered completely online and is designed to be able to be completed in as little as three semesters. At the completion of the program, you’ll earn an academic certificate from The Ohio State University.

Upon completion of this certificate, students will be prepared to:

  • Systematically apply understanding of regulations, bioethics, design and launch of clinical trials of investigational products.
  • Apply data and project management to support quality improvement and monitor clinical trials activities.

This certificate is available to Ohio State students seeking a bachelor’s degree in health-related sciences (including Chemistry and Biochemistry).

This program admits students every semester. There is an application deadline for each semester.
