Carnegie Mellon Diversity Opportunity

Applications are now open for Carnegie Mellon’s Data Analytics for Science Immersion Experience! This 10-day experience will take place from June 5th to June 14th. This workshop is in partnership with Microsoft and DOW and will allow students to work with faculty from the Mellon College of Science. The program also aims to support students from underrepresented groups.

Opportunities through this program include:

  • Data analytic seminars, providing training in modern bioinformatics
  • Meet with and ask questions to partners from Microsoft and DOW
  • Tour DOW headquarters in Michigan

Room and board are provided along with travel expenses and a $500 stipend.

Organic Chemist Job Opportunity

Nesco Research is currently hiring an Organic Chemist at their Lockbourne, OH location. This position is for a lead role in kilogram-scale manufacture of specialty chemicals including dyes and dye intermediates.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited too, chemical process monitoring and control, crude product purification, spectroscopy, quality control, and specialty chemical production on kilogram scales.

Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and 5 years experience in kilo lab. Preferred Qualifications also include an MS in Organic Chemistry, as well as expertise in handling chemicals and with analytical equipment.

Experience with operation of analytical instruments including Liquid and Gas Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry, and NMR.

2022 Spring Undergraduate Research Festival

Want to learn from fellow students and hear what they are researching?  Then visit the 2022 Undergraduate Research Festival where over 100 students will be presenting their research! Taking place on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at Pomerene TDAI Ideation Zone in 3 sessions, the festival is a great presentation opportunity for students.

This will allow students to gain experience communicating their research in front of a new and diverse audience with a variety of academic backgrounds, as well as create a poster to spark conversations with Festival attendees. This Festival is open to all disciplines and the research presented does not need to be completed to present. Attendees will have an opportunity to learn from the presentation and broaden their knowledge of different topics.

Each session, 9:30-11:30AM, 12-2PM, and 3-5PM, will be structured with the first hour including poster presentations and the second hour being oral slide presentations.

REU Internship at the University of Akron

Applications are still open for the 2022 summer research experience for the School of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering at the University of Akron internship. This competitive program is sponsored by the National Research Foundation, the University of Akron, and corporate sponsors.

The program will take place over the course of 9 weeks, during which students will investigate a fundamental question within the broad disciplines of polymer science and polymer engineering. This includes chemistry, physics, characterization, and biomaterials. Interns will take part in research and career development activities, discussions outlining their research progress, and visits to regional companies. The program will come to a close with an oral or poster presentation of the intern’s research results at the Northeast Ohio NSF-REU Undergraduate Research Conference.

Support includes a $5,400 stipend and on campus housing.

The program will run from Monday, June 6 to Friday, August 5.

Join ASC Career Success for an undergraduate geared career event. This will allow students to explore careers in biotech, while learning about trends in the field, existing and emerging career paths, and more. Students will be able to hear from representatives from the Biotech industry from partners such as:

All students are welcome to attend, specifically students interested in biotech career paths, looking to connect to professionals, or explore more career options. Professional attire is encouraged but not required.

This event will be held on Tuesday, February 1st from 4:30-6pm in Journalism Building 270.

2022 Startup Career Fair

The Business Builders Club is hosting its 3rd annual Startup Career Fair. The Career Fair will include 40 businesses from around the Midwest, giving students the opportunity to hear from startups in the area. All students interested in working for a startup are encouraged to attend.

This internship is a great opportunity to gain real-world experience in the Materials Technology field and work with water and drainage systems.

While working with the Advanced Drainage Systems, Inc. interns will help develop next generation plastics to help assist with water handling challenges. This will include working alongside engineers to study materials performance and development.

Specific roles will include:

  • Literature review regarding specific project areas
  • Hands-on lab work processing and testing materials
  • Recording test and lab observations, data interpretation, and present results

Qualifications include, but not limited to:

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Communication and analytical skills
  • Microsoft Office skills
  • Preferred Materials Science/Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Chemistry majors
  • Preferred prior experience working in lab setting with sensitive equipment

2022 Vanderbilt University National Science Foundation REU in Nanoscience and Nanoengineering

Applications have officially opened for summer 2022 Undergraduate Research positions at Vanderbilt University in Nanoscience and Nanoengineering. The program focuses on interdisciplinary nanoscale research in the areas of chemistry, physics, biology, and engineering. The program holds a 76% success rate for participants attending graduate school following the program, as well as receiving a variety of awards and honors.

Undergraduates will interact with faculty members from the School of Engineering, College of Arts and Science, and the School of Medicine, in addition to working directly with Vanderbilt Institute for Nanoscale Science and Engineering faculty members and research groups. Program participants will also participate in hands on research, have science outreach opportunities, and attend seminars and workshops.

The program offers a $5,000 stipend, $500 travel allowance, and includes room and board.
