FAST Fellowship Applications Open Now

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is offering two exciting fellowship opportunities for upcoming Bachelors, Masters, and Ph.D. graduates in Natural Science (Chemistry, Agricultural and Natural Resources, or Physical Sciences).  The Florida Agricultural Science and Technology (FAST) Fellowship Program is a paid, two-year program in a state-of-the art laboratory located in Tallahassee, Florida.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have received their degree (Bachelors, Masters, or Ph.D.) by the time the FAST Fellowship Program begins (September 2018) and may not have received it prior to September 2015.  Eligibility requirements are listed below:

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a major in a Natural Science (Chemistry, Agricultural and Natural Resources, or Physical Sciences) received within the last three (3) years.  Salary is based on degree of selected candidate.
  • Be a United States citizen, or a lawfully authorized alien worker.
  • Have a Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher in the science courses completed.
  • Less than three (3) years of post-graduation professional experience in the Natural Sciences as described in (1).

TA Opportunities At OSU

If you are interested in becoming a TA  for Autumn 2018? Two departments here at OSU are currently hiring!

The Math Department relies on students to staff the TA sections of pre-calculus and algebra courses. Undergrad Math TAs currently receive a stipend of at least $4920 per semester for approximately 20 hours of work per week. Duties include teaching recitations, grading, holding office hours, and tutoring.

If you have:

1) Excellent communication skills,

2) An interest in teaching,

3) At least one post-calculus math course, and

4) Undergraduate student status at OSU

You are  eligible to apply for a teaching associateship in Math that begins Autumn Semester, 2018.

Interested students can pick up applications from the Math Tower receptionist or can contact John Lewis (300 Math Tower or lewis.361@osu.edu) for more information.

University of Pittsburgh Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Pittsburgh is pleased to announce the 2018 Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship program (SURF Pitt 2018).  Summer research opportunities are available for up to five female and/or minority undergraduate students in the STEM disciplines who are expecting to graduate in 2019.  Students selected for the program will receive a stipend of $371 per week for 10 weeks of summer research starting on May 27th and running until August 4th.  Students will also be provided free housing on the University of Pittsburgh campus.

Interested students are encouraged to apply on line at http://tinyurl.com/PittChemSURF.  Applicants are required to send their cover letter, official or unofficial transcript, and a prioritized list of four Chemistry Department research groups in which they are interested.  Two letters of recommendation must be sent directly to Debbie Hunt (debhunt@pitt.edu). Conducting and presenting research is a large part of your undergraduate experience here at Ohio State, but what do you do after that? Have you considered submitting your research for publication?

JUROS is the Journal for Undergraduate Research at Ohio State. Our organization is a multidisciplinary research journal, and is in place to review and publish quality research performed and submitted by Ohio State’s very own undergraduate student body. We are currently accepting submissions for our online and print editions!

Acceptable material for submission includes the following:

  • Manuscripts (6-35 pages)
  • Feature articles (<6 pages)
  • Images & descriptions of creative projects
  • Research theses (<35 pages)
  • Research abstracts

Publish with us and you will have a permanent, professional citation to your name and get recognition for your hard work!

Pasteur Foundation 2018 Summer Internship

For over 15 years, the Pasteur Foundation Summer Internship Program has provided U.S. college undergraduates, entering their Senior year, with a rare opportunity to work on supervised research projects at the Institut Pasteur. The Foundation’s goal is to encourage and inspire students in the pursuit of a scientific career within the context of an international laboratory experience.

Each year, selected laboratories at the Institut Pasteur host U.S. undergraduate students.  Internships must begin on or after Monday, June 4, 2018 and conclude on Friday, July 27, 2018, for a total of ten weeks. 2018 applications must be submitted on or before Friday, January 26, 2018. 

During the internships, interns will carry out research supervised by a lab mentor. Applicants should be eager to engage with a different culture, and self-sufficient enough to arrange travel and secure housing in Paris. Depending on availability, affordable housing in a residence on campus may be possible. Interns will receive $6,500 to defray travel, housing and living expenses.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be undergraduates with an excellent academic record and a strong interest in biosciences and biomedical research (prior lab experience is highly recommended);
  • Have completed three full years (six semesters) of college course work by the time the internship commences (be a rising senior);
  • Not have received an undergraduate degree at the time of the internship.
  • Knowledge of French is not necessary, but a desire to learn it is advisable. This program is open to U.S. citizens only.

Exciting Pharmacology Graduate Programs at University of Cincinnati

The Department of Pharmacology and Systems Physiology at the University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine currently offers a unique hands-on MS experience (thesis or non-thesis tracks) emphasizing drug discovery and preclinical pharmacology.

Sometimes undergraduate students are unsure how to pursue their scientific career goals. UC’s 1-year MS non-thesis and 2-year MS thesis track options offer many exciting opportunities for students to explore their scientific interests while discovering new career paths.  As an interdisciplinary field, students study several aspects of preclinical drug discovery, safety, and development and are scientifically well-rounded, which creates numerous opportunities for UC’s Pharmacology graduates.  One unique aspect of this program is the opportunity to interact with several invited speakers from UC’s drug industry partners (Johnson & Johnson, Covance, Eli Lilly, Battelle, Charles River) plus students gain hands-on research experience while working with expert UC and Cincinnati Children’s faculty. About half of these students use the program as a gap year experience, preparing for advanced academic training in the life sciences (MD, PhD, DMD, PharmD, DVM), with the remaining graduates employed in academia (teaching/research) or private sector enterprises (www.med.uc.edu/ms-in-pharmacology/alumni).

Applications for the 2018-2019 academic year will be accepted until June 1, 2018 or until the class is full.

The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry hires over 50 outstanding undergraduates per semester to teach our General Chemistry courses. If you’d like to improve your content knowledge at your job, help students through problems, and get teaching experience, TAing could be for you!

Qualifications:

  • Completed General Chemistry Sequence (1210/1220; 1610/1620; or 1910H/1920H) with an A or A- (preferred)
  • Accumulative GPA > 3.6
  • Taking classes during Spring 2017
  • No other paid student appointment during Spring 2017 [this includes paid research]

Appointment Details:

  • Salary: $12/hour
  • Hours: 10-12 per week
  • Responsibilities: Teach 1-3 hour lab; Promptly grade assignments and prepare for teaching responsibilities; 1 weekly office hour; proctor all exams; attend weekly staff meetings and beginning of the year training beginning Sunday, January 7th, 2018. Conflicts  with training should be stated on your application and described in detail if possible.

Southern Teacher’s Agency is Recruiting for Science Teacher Jobs Now

The Southern Teachers Agency is the premier placement agency for private schools in the South.
