OSU Spring Career Fair

The Spring Career Fair is focused on helping you find an internship, a first job, or your next job. The event is open to ALL current Ohio State students and recent alumni. It will be held virtually Wednesday, January 27th on Handshake’s Career Fair platform from 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Mark your calendar now!

Attending employers recruit across a broad range of disciplines. Attending employers include private sector companies, federal and state government agencies, and nonprofit. They are recruiting across a broad range of disciplines and seek to fill full-time, entry level positions, as well as summer internships.

Advanced research on Handshake is recommended. Students are able to register for both group sessions and 1:1 sessions with employers before the event so you are encouraged to check Handshake frequently for added employers.

Students MUST register before the event via Handshake. Students also need to have their profile set to “Community” to be able to access both the group employer sessions and the 1:1 sessions with employers.

Advanced Computational Research Experience for Students (ACRES)

ICER ACRES is a 10-week summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) in ACRES 2021 This REU is coordinated by Michigan State University’s Department of Computational Mathematics, Science and Engineering (CMSE), in partnership with the Institute for Cyber-Enabled Research (ICER).

Research projects provided though ICER ACRES focus on the development and enhancement of algorithms, models, and software for applications in multiple research areas that require high-performance computing resources. Research areas include: computational chemistry, biology, astrophysics, mathematics, big data science, and earth/climate sciences.

The program dates are May 24 – July 30, 2021. Participants receive a stipend of $6,000, plus housing and travel allowances.

NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU): Molecular and Biochemical Analysis of Proteins

This National Science Foundation sponsored program provides advanced training in the manipulation and analysis of proteins for undergraduate students. It facilitates deep understanding of experimental laboratory research, insights into protein biochemistry and contemplation of the broader context of research. A wide range of student research projects mentored by faculty in the Department of Biochemistry are available. Examples include: experimental analysis of enzyme mechanisms, post-translational protein modifications, proteomics, and protein-nucleic acid interactions studied in the biological context of cell cycle control, chromatin regulation and renewable energy research.

Problem-based modules presented during the first three days of the program introduce key concepts in protein biochemistry and experimental design. After this brief orientation, the program emphasizes full-time research supplemented with weekly sessions on ethical conduct in research, professional communication, GRE preparation and the graduate school application process. At the end of the program students will present their results at a departmental symposium and a university-wide poster session.

Participants are provided:

  • $5,750 stipend and additional $750 meal allowance
  • Housing on campus
  • Round trip transportation to West Lafayette

The program will run May 24 – July 31, 2021.

Postbaccalaureate Program to Diversify STEM: Stowers Research Scholar

The Stowers Institute for Medical Research (Kansas City, Missouri) is now accepting applications for Stowers Research Scholars, a mentored 1-year postbaccalaureate research fellowship. Through guided research experience and academic career mentoring, this program aims to increase the number of NIH-defined underrepresented students in fundamental biological research.  This year the program is accepting up to three students for the inaugural class.

This opportunity is open to US citizens or permanent residents from diverse backgrounds with a BA or BS in a STEM field who are interested in pursuing graduate education in basic biological sciences. Compensation is highly competitive and prior laboratory experience is not required. (Bachelor’s degree must be conferred prior to the program start date.)

2021 Repperger Summer Research Internship Program

Applications must be completed by February 15, 2021, at 8:00 a.m. EST.

The Repperger Research Intern Program is a 10-week educational experience, providing research opportunities for students at one of three Air Force research facilities under the mentorship of an Air Force scientist. Scientists have been hand selected to mentor, because of their technical knowledge, experience and willingness to help science and engineering students enhance their learning through participation in an actual Air Force research project. The available research opportunities span nearly all STEM fields, from Biology, Mathematics, Computer Science, Cognitive Science, Kinesiology, Physics and many more areas of study. Along with gaining first-hand research experience, students will learn the inner workings of an operational laboratory and develop contacts and friendships that will last a lifetime.

Research Experience for Undergraduates in Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering

Applications are open for the 2021 Summer Research Experience (REU) program in the School of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering at The University of Akron. The application deadline is Friday, February 12, 2021.

This competitive REU program is sponsored by the National Science Foundation, The University of Akron, and corporate sponsors. Students will participate in a 9-week internship to investigate a fundamental question within the broad disciplines of polymer science and polymer engineering, including chemistry, physics, characterization, and biomaterials.  These interns will take part in research and career development activities, discussions outlining their research progress and visits to regional companies.  The summer will culminate with an oral or poster presentation of each intern’s research results at the Northeast Ohio NSF-REU Undergraduate Research Conference.

Support for this 9-week summer 2021 program is $5,400 stipend. In addition, on-campus housing is provided.
