ACS will hold an event titled A Century of Chemical Warfare: Trenches, Treaties, Today on Wednesday November 18 from 6:30pm-8:30pm. Dr. David Lenz from the US Army Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense will be the speaker of the event.

Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship

The Sea Grant Knauss Fellowship is a one year paid fellowship that gives graduate students the opportunity to explore national policy decisions that affect ocean, coastal, and Great Lakes resources. This fellowship matches graduate students with hosts in the legislative and executive branches of government in the Washington, D.C. area.

Arts and Sciences Career Accelerator Fund

The Career Accelerator Fund provides support for Arts and Sciences students who work in unpaid or minimally paid internships, undergraduate research positions, or experiential learning opportunities. The Spring internship application deadline is December 8, 2020. The Summer internship application deadline is January 29, 2020.

To qualify, you must be a full-time freshman, sophomore, or junior student at OSU and already have an internship secured for Spring or Summer semester.

Course Spotlight: ARTSSCI 5194 – Personal Wellness and Mental Health

Developed in conversation with the College of Arts and Sciences Committee on Student Mental Health and Wellness, ARTSSCI 5194: Personal Wellness and Mental Health is a new one-credit, distance learning course being offered in the spring for both undergraduate and graduate students.

Taught by Professors Jennifer Cheavens and Daniel Strunk from the Department of Psychology, the course will introduce students to a variety of evidence-based strategies for managing stress, combatting anxiety and depression, and promoting personal wellness. The course aims to provide students a psychological toolkit that they can rely on in facing a wide variety of challenges as they progress through their university experience and into the years that follow

2020 Autumn Undergraduate Research Festival

The 2020 Autumn Undergraduate Research Festival is taking place virtually this week, Nov 2 to Nov 6, 2020. The Festival features undergraduate students from various colleges and departments around campus. Undergraduate researchers have uploaded their presentations to the website and can be watched on demand. You are invited to leave comments and questions for the undergraduate researchers, who will be monitoring and responding all week.

The Undergraduate Research & Creative Inquiry office is also hosting a Virtual 3-Minute Thesis Competition during the festival. Sign up to view the competition on Friday, November 6th!

ASC Career Connections: Nonprofit and Health and Wellness Careers

OSU’s Center for Career and Professional Success is holding a virtual networking event on November 12 from 2:00pm-3:00pm.

At this event, students will have the opportunity to network with organizations who work with individuals with special needs. Speakers at the event with discuss the non-profit sector, the operations of non-profit organizations, and the health and wellness industry. CUNY Biochemistry PhD Information Session

The City University of New York is holding an information session about their Biochemistry PhD program. The university is currently recruiting interested students for the class of Fall 2021.

This event will give students the opportunity to:

  • learn more about the City University of New York’s Biochemistry PhD program
  • learn how to create a competitive application and personal statement
  • ask questions to City University of New York faculty and students
  • learn about research being conducted at the City University of New York

SLDS Chemistry Lab Assistant Positions

Student Life Disability Services is accepting applications for Chemistry Lab Assistant positions in Spring 2021. This position provides the opportunity to assist students who have disabilities in the lab setting.

Responsibilities include:

  • scheduling meetings with students before each lab to talk about safety measures and procedures
  • performing duties in lab as described by students
  • following all department instructions on safety and dress code

To apply, you must meet the following qualifications:

  • enrolled as a student during Spring 2021
  • cumulative GPA > 3.0
  • completed General Chemistry Sequence (1210/1220; 1610/1620; or 1910H/1920H) with an A or A-

Appointment details are as follows:

  • $10/hour
