Science & Engineering Leadership Initiative

The University of Delaware is now accepting applications for their Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program – the Science and Engineering Leadership Initiative.

Motivated by the realization that people with disabilities are significantly underrepresented in STEM disciplines, UD’s REU program is unique in that they are focusing on providing students with disabilities a research and community building experience tailored to fostering success in graduate school and beyond.

The program is scheduled from June 4, 2018 to August 10, 2018 at the University of Delaware in Newark, Deleware. A stipend and housing are provided for the 10-week program.

The REU program is open to all undergraduate students with disabilities (mobility, sensory, learning, psychological, medical, or other) who are majors in chemistry, biochemistry, or other related fields.

2018 Summer Internship & Opportunity Fair

The 2018 Summer Internship & Opportunity Fair is scheduled for Tuesday, January 23, 2018 from 1-5pm in the Archie Griffin Grand Ballroom of the Ohio Union. This fair is open to all Ohio State students and is designed to connect students with organizations recruiting for summer internships, summer volunteer opportunities, and part-time or full-time summer employment.

CBC Undergraduate Scholarships – Apply Now!

The online application form for Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry undergraduate scholarships for the 2018-2019 academic year is now open! The application, along with eligibility information and a list of requirements can be found on the Application webpage.

A list of the available scholarships can be found on the CBC Scholarship webpage. The CBC Scholarships support students with a variety of goals, interests, and backgrounds.

All applicants must include the information of a faculty member who has agreed to provide a recommendation; please be sure to get permission and agreement from the faculty member before listing them as your recommender.

Applications are due Monday, February 5th, 2018, by 5:00pm.

Illinois Research Experience for Undergraduates

The University of Illinois is now accepting applications for their summer Research Experience for Undergraduates program. Participants will work on a research project under the direction of a faculty mentor. The program will also offer multiple seminars, workshops, and social events.

The program will run for 10 weeks, May 29 – August 3, 2018, at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Students who have completed coursework at the sophomore to junior level by June 1, 2018 are their intended scholarship recipients. Applicants should be planning to obtain a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry or related fields between January 1, 2019 and August 31, 2020.

The scholarship provides:

  • $5,000 stipend
  • Housing at Europa House in Urbana, within walking distance to the Department of Chemistry and the rest of the campus
  • Round trip travel cost (up to $800)

Scripps Institution of Oceanography Internship

The Marine Physical Laboratory at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego, in La Jolla, California is offering a ten-week summer internship opportunity. This internship program is a great opportunity for inquisitive and motivated undergraduate students with exceptional aptitude for quantitative science to work with some of the most notable scientists in the world while earning $14/hour. In addition to their research, students will attend weekly seminars given by members of their faculty and scientific staff.

Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents currently enrolled in their first, second, or third year of undergraduate status. Senior year undergrads, former MPL interns and high school applicants are not eligible.
