Communication: Blog Post #2

I chose to sit and watch people communicate in the library. The most obvious form of communication being used in the library was verbal. Students were discussing school work, weekend plans, and much more. As I was observing, I also noticed one of the most common forms of communication was technology. Specifically, most students and faculty communicated through text messages. Although this form of communication may be used in the library because it is a quiet environment, I think texting is the most widely used form of communication among young people today. It is convenient, easy, and fast, however, I do think there is a point where it interferes with face to face communication skills.

Another form of communication I noticed being used in the library was nonverbal. There were many instances when two people were talking too loud and others used nonverbal communication (such as giving the pair the “evil eye”) to communicate they were being disruptive. People also use nonverbal communication, such as waving, to say hello and goodbye to others.
