Hi Casey! I think this drawing turned out really great! I am assuming this is a self-portrait? (I have to admit, I actually don’t know if I could recognize your full face because we always meet with our masks on!) I have to commend you because self-portraits are actually really difficult and can also be super vulnerable. The way we see ourselves is so complex and the drawing can become a process of translating both internal and external understandings of the self. I am really struck by the emotion within this drawing — the stare and the dripping makeup — it also feels like you are hunched forward, just about to tell me something because your mouth is open. But then I am at a loss because I never hear it! But then again, I start to wonder if you are actually staring in a mirror because of the border of the frame… there are many open interpretations possible. If you enjoy this, I would keep making self-portraits! It is surprising how different one can look to another, depending on your mood and the day! Great work and I am glad see the openness of the prompt was useful to you!
