Hi Casey! am so interested in how you used unconventional materials here in the collage, such as the tampon and tissue paper. It is obviously hard to know exactly what your dream narrative is here — but there are many interesting details that really pull me into this imaginary environment. For example, I am struck by the casts of teeth. I am also struck by the different shifts of perspective, and our position of viewing things from above. Often we are not fully situated in the landscape where our dreams are located. Our eyes “see” differently when they are closed! I also have a feeling this might have been based on a nightmare rather than a dream that is more pleasurable… the uncanny parts of it are great.
I am looking forward to your translation drawing copy next week. You might have to take some liberties when “copying” this collage. Think about what extra things you might add or subtle changes you might make as you create the drawing. How do you show the transparency of the layered material? How might some of the sharper boundaries between the different scenes here dissolve? As the artist, you have creative control!
