At the Start of a New Chapter

For book lovers everywhere, there is a special feeling that we get when we flip the page and see the start of a new a chapter. It gives us a moment to reflect on where the characters have been so far and the actions that have led them up to that specific point. It also incites an excitement as well as an apprehension of what will come next. We don’t know the adventures they will go on or the new people they will meet but we dive head first into the unknown, trusting that the experiences these characters go through, both the highs and lows, will take them to a place they could never have fathomed. We hope to see them grow and change, learning from their mistakes while also celebrating their victories. So here I sit, on the brink of a new chapter in my life feeling the same excitement, and a little fear, of what the future may hold.

I’m 29 years old, not old by any measure except that of the high school students I teach. I’ve been teaching French for last six years in a fairly affluent city in central Indiana. For the last two years, I have also filled the role as one of two building technology coordinators. This fall, I will be adding another title – student – as I start a Master of Learning Technologies at the Ohio State. My paternal grandparents went to Michigan State and the University of Michigan so you can see that I did not take this decision lightly. While I know that this program will be far from easy, I also know that I have the support of my husband of 7 years and that of my friends and family who know that my passion for technology has been ongoing since my childhood. This new journey will require many things and there will be challenges as well as success, but above all, I am excited for what this new chapter will bring.
