The Implications of Carpets on Indoor Chemistry and Microbiology: Moving Towards Recommendations
workshop will take place at the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, from July 30-31, 2019.
The goal of this workshop is to examine current knowledge and future research questions related to the implications of carpet on indoor chemistry and microbiology. Carpet is a favored indoor material, and it can serve as a reservoir for microbes and chemicals that can have important implications for both human health and building maintenance. We plan to bring together researchers and practitioners to examine research questions related to this common floor covering. Ultimately, we hope to move the discussion toward recommendations for healthy and desirable flooring in different indoor environments. Sessions will cover dust resuspension and exposure, microbiology, chemistry, and future directions.
This workshop is sponsored by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. It is also co-sponsored by the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geodetic Engineering at Ohio State University.
