How To Handle the Holiday Stresses

The holidays are now front and center. Emotions during this time of year can range from pure joy to pure stress. One psychologist says you can keep the peace during your family gatherings. The holidays can be an agonizing time for some families and magical for others. Just making the trip to see loved ones can be a stress. Not every family gets along. Each family dynamic is different. Some have deep-rooted resentment and jealousies. Dr. Kristen Carpenter is quoted. This coverage resulted from pitching efforts by OSU Wexner Medical Center Public Affairs and Media Relations.

How is Your Spouse’s Health Impacting Yours?

Women’s Health

When Sharon Vecchiarelli’s husband was diagnosed with cancer in February 2011, their world was completely turned upside down. It quickly fell to her to manage his care, find the right doctors, try to keep their two children’s lives as normal as possible, update family and friends, and take care of the house and property. “You name it, and it was on my to-do list,” she says. Vecchiarelli mostly ate in the car, and it was all food she would never have eaten before. Her stress was sky high. In the end, she gained 40 pounds, had aches and pains in her hips and knees, acid reflux, and her period completely stopped. This is an extreme but all too common example of how the health of one spouse can negatively affect the other. Whether it’s exercise or eating habits, stress, or illness, it’s two for the price of one. Kristen Carpenter was quoted. Coco Rocha Loves Her Daughter So Much, She May Not Have A Second Baby

It’s no secret that model Coco Rocha is proud of her daughter, Ioni James Conran. The 19-month-old regularly appears in her mom’s Instagram posts and even has her own popular Instagram account with more than 52,000 followers. But while Rocha clearly loves being a mom, she tells People in a new interview that she’s not sure she will do it again for such a sweet reason: She’s nervous that she won’t be able to love another child as much as she loves her daughter. Kristen Carpenter, Ph.D., director of women’s behavioral health at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, tells SELF that this is a very common worry with moms of one child.

Many people expect that the period right after they have a baby will be filled with rainbows and butterflies. While it’s definitely a special time, it can also be tough to grapple with all of the changes that took place—and they can have a serious impact on your mood. Chrissy Teigen, who gave birth to her daughter Luna in April, spoke about this struggle earlier this week on the Today show. “I think a lot of the mood stuff that happens afterwards isn’t really talked about, whether it’s postpartum depression or really just, for me, some days, I wouldn’t know how to cope with work and juggle things and still have time for a husband and life,” she said.Kristen Carpenter was quoted.
