Year in Review

My second year at Ohio State was an unbelievable growth experience for me both personally and professionally. I explored new opportunities as a new member of the Buckeye Leadership Fellows program, as well as the Honors Cohort program. In addition, I challenged myself with a marketing internship in the Master of Business Logistics Engineering program, as an economics tutor with Student Athlete Services, and took on a leadership role in my business fraternity by creating and chairing a Diversity & Inclusion committee.  I also secured a spot as a business consultant for a non-profit organization in Cape Town, South Africa and represented both the United State and The Ohio State University while on the Kakehashi Project in Japan.  Academically, sophomore year introduced me to many more business core classes as well as my first finance specialization class. Moving into the summer, I will be pursuing an internship with the start-up venture capital firm Chloe Capital, which focuses on funding and accelerating women-owned businesses in New York. This year I have really narrowed down my focus to involvements I am truly passionate about. The ones that push me to grow in ways I have never dreamed possible and make me so proud to be a Buckeye. As I look at all of my accomplishments, I can honestly say that Business Scholars has given me life-long friends and an abundance of opportunities to succeed. I have been surrounded by the most ambitious and hardworking people at this university, all of whom push me to reach my fullest potential both as an individual and as a professional. I will continue to utilize the opportunities brought to my by the Honors & Scholars department as an Honors student, and will potentially be pursuing a Fulbright Scholarship position in the future.

Artifacts

This artifact is a representation of my Business Scholars group. I was chosen as one of sixty-nine students to participate in this organization, and it has changed the way I have experienced college completely. I am so grateful for the opportunities I can been able to access, like a centennial celebration of The Max M. Fisher College of Business and an etiquette dinner, through this organization. It has pushed me to become a better student, professional, and person by surrounding me by hardworking individuals with interests that are similar to mine.

About Me

Hello! My name is Erica Carlson and I am currently a Scholars student from the Max M. Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University. I am from Catskill, New York and am pursuing a major in Finance and Economics, as well as a minor in Computer Science Engineering. I chose Finance and Economics due to my passion for business and commerce, which fits well with my outgoing yet disciplined personality. Since it has become increasingly important to understand technology in today’s world, my Computer
Science Engineering major has gone a long way in challenging me intellectually while contributing to my understanding of technological advancement in business and industry.

Since starting my college career I have become involved in
a variety of organizations on campus, both inside and outside of The Max M. Fisher College of Business. These activities include Scarlet and Gray Financial Coaching, which allows students to help educate and assist the Ohio State community with financial wellness and planning, as well as the Delta Sigma Pi Professional Fraternity, which I am currently pledging. I am also involved in two organizations which pair international students with domestic students in an effort to cross cultural boundaries and
solidify diverse friendships: the Fisher International Friends Program and the English Conversation Program. Lastly I am involved in the Women in Science and Engineering Book Study Organization, which emphasizes how women can and have excelled in the fields of Mathematics, Science, Engineering and Technology. All of these diverse organizations allow me to have a well rounded perspective of The Ohio State University and life after college, academically, professionally and personally. I firmly believe that each of them contributes to who I am in a different way, and I have gained immeasurable knowledge in business, culture, and academia.

Looking forward I am excited to continue to expand my horizons and grow through all of the opportunities The Ohio State University has to offer!
