5 Thinks to Know About LikeThat Garden

What is the main purpose of your app?
The main purpose of this app is to allow the user to take a picture of a plant or flower and search for the name of that plant. Additionally more information about the plant is provided, alternatives are suggested and you can share your results. There are detailed pictures that allow you to compare your plants but ultimately it is not 100% guaranteed which makes it not much use to commercial industry but more so for home gardeners.
How does it help the user?
This app allows the user, most likely a home gardener, the ability to identify weeds and learn how to deal with them accordingly. Also this app could be used to identify a plant you own but aren’t sure of what it is. Overall the main point is that is helps the user identify plants.
How do you use it?
How you use it is really simple. You take a picture of a plant with high lighting, or a picture of a flower then once you take the picture the application generates about 8 likely plants that it may be. Once you find the plant you can hit a confirm button in which it will save it to your history, you can read more about the plant and share your results.
Why is it significant?
This app is significant for a more casual gardener that seeks information while out gardening. It’s practical in the sense of wanting to identify weeds that you encounter without having to grab a book or an expert. It also connects gardeners more intimately with plants allowing them easy access to a wealth of information on those plants that is provided via wikipedia. I’m not sure how reliable this app would be in a professional setting but for the casual gardener I think it is a great tool to expand their knowledge on plants and driving curiosity to get people to learn more about plants.
What do you think of its potential?
As I have mentioned throughout the other questions I think this is a great tool for the home gardener. It allows them to identify weeds that are in their lawn leading to readings on how to deal with that type of plant. It can be used out and about if there’s a plant someone sees and wants but you do not know what type of plant it is. I’ve already used it once for that reason I was at a friends house and he has a plant I really like but he doesn’t know what it is. I opened the app and took a picture of it and sure enough I found the plant Dracaena reflexa with multiple images in a link for more information. I think this is a really cool idea and may not have so much practical use in the commercial world but is very marketable to home garden owners who are trying to expand their knowledge on plant identification.
