Background

Survey Questions:

  1. What are your career goals?
Ideally I would prefer to work in a public garden, such as a conservatory, arboretum or botanical garden that integrates horticulture with public education. I’m also open to the idea of working in the field of environmental restoration.
  2. Describe your “comfort zone” when it comes to working with a computer. In other words, what do you MOST enjoy doing on the computer?
I’m pretty familiar with computers, my Mom has been a graphic designer since computers came to prominence, and her ex-husband was a computer programmer so I’ve been around them my whole life. Honestly I most enjoy playing video games on computers! Although I’m also the most comfortable using Microsoft word and utilizing the internet for schoolwork.
  3. What do you find MOST frustrating when working with computers?
What I find most frustrating when dealing with computers is getting over the learning curve of new software. Although it can sometimes be painful to learn a new program it’s often very rewarding. I’m in the process of learning how to use the Mac operating system and just trying to understand what the basic functions like copying and pasting is something I thought I would never have to re-learn!
  4. What are two things you would like MOST to learn, see or do with technology this year?
I’m always trying to increase the amount of programs I know how to use, I’m looking forward to learning how to operate new unfamiliar applications. Additionally, I just got a mac laptop a few days ago — it’s the first mac I’ve ever had and I would really like to master this new system, and learn what all of the stock applications are and if they can benefit my computer usage, both professional and recreational.
  5. Not counting Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint, what software have you used to complete assignments for other courses? (This could be software on your own computer, in a lab on in the cloud.)
I’ve actually never had to wander outside of these three programs in my studies. I’ve used online interfaces for math and science classes but those were just for online homework assignments.
  6. Not counting Carmen or a class-specific website, what websites or online services have you used to complete assignments for other courses?
I have not used outside online services to complete classwork other than assigned applications that were tailored for those particular classes — especially math and science classes.
  7. Not counting PowerPoint, what software or websites have you used to assist in delivering a presentation?
Powerpoint is the only application I have ever used in delivering a presentation, it’s always met my basic needs and it’s a program that I am familiar with so I haven’t felt the need to learn a new program.
  8. Describe any assignments for other classes in which you were involved with producing or editing or posting online an audio or video project.
I’ve never had to produce, edit or post any audio or video project in my collegiate years!
  9. What experience do you have using an iPad or some other tablet device in another class for completing assignments? What apps did you use and what did you turn in or post?
I’ve never used an iPad or tablet to complete classwork; the only experience I’ve had with tablets is at a previous job there was a tablet we used for spreadsheets via excel.
  10. Describe what type of computer(s) and mobile device(s) you own – Mac, PC, Android, etc.
I have an Android phone, a PC desktop computer and I just bought a Mac laptop a few days ago, which I have had almost no experiences with previously. I have had constant problems with the PC laptops I’ve had over the years, so I figured it’s time to finally try out a Mac operating system.
