We are the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics Student Chapter and Math 2 Industry Seminar at The Ohio State University. With the support of the OSU Math Department, we aim to inspire students to develop critical thinking and mathematical reasoning skills and pursue a career in applied mathematics.

During this info-session, we will discuss what the Quantathon is and what questions students may encounter. Resources to prepare for the competition will also be provided. This meeting is also a great place to meet new people and form teams.

Denise Dzekova| Software Engineer at Google
March 29th, 2024: 5-6pm @ Math Tower 724
After graduating with a BS in Computational and Applied Math from UChicago in 2018, Denise Dzekova joined Goldman Sachs as a Quant Analyst. She used a blend of Computer Science, Finance, and Math to develop hedging strategies/trades for the Commodity & Currency Derivatives Analytics Group. Denise is now a Software Engineer at Google working on Site Reliability Engineering Group.

 

Alex Hookway, FSA| Sr AVP, NF Quantitative Risk Management at Nationwide Financial
March 29th, 2024: 6-7pm @ Math Tower 724
After graduating with a BS in Economics from Ohio State, Alex Hookway joined Nationwide Financial as an Actuary. He is currently the AVP of Quantitative Risk Management where he leads a team responsible for hedging of embedded guarantees in products sold by Nationwide Financial. Alex holds a Masters in Analytics from Georgia Tech.

Quantathon |  March, 29-30th, 2024 @ Math Tower 724
After our two guest speakers, we will publish the question and dataset online at around 7pm. Students then have 24 hours to find insights for potential trading strategies. Teams will be judged on the 5 minutes video they submit discussing the insights they found.
