homework 2

I really appreciated how this video emphasized the importance of art on today’s society. It talked about how drawing is a form of communication and I couldn’t agree more. Art is everywhere and helps people interpret our lives. Even if you think about the aspect of art that isn’t connected to emotions, the more practical side of it is still incredibly useful. For example, Francis Wells uses art to help him plan out a surgical operation before and even during a medical procedure. Staying with the theme of the medical field, one of the most well known artists in history was also able to help us advance in medicine with his drawings. Leonardo Da Vinci used his curiosity and artistic skill to give people a better understanding of what makes up the human body. He drew many pieces relating to anatomy and the body’s functions. His art has even helped doctors form new types of surgery.

Cassiano dal Pozzo was another mind in science that used art to advance his studies. His paper museum was meant to convey scientific knowledge in a visual way. Although it didn’t start out as a source for medical information, it did hold a lot of useful details about nature. With about 15,000 drawings and paintings in color, the paper museum holds depictions of a great variety of both plants and animals.

I think this video holds an important message about how drawings and art can be used for both expressing emotions and for learning purposes. Without the visual aid that art provides, there would still be so much we don’t know about our world.
