Project Statement

While my top priority in this project was accuracy in perspective, I also took into account the relations between the objects in the perspective space. When creating my studio, I made use of the flat grid for placement before translating into perspective. This was very useful and I will continue to do so, because it enabled me to be aware of the distance between objects and how much space I really had in the room. I struggled to accurately portray curved objects in perspective, such as the chair and the couch, but with practice and lots of trace paper, I was able to maintain correct perspective during transfer from the placement grid into the perspective space. To address depth in a way additional to perspective, I would like to add shading to show implied volume. However, the use of line weight starts this process, such as in the couch and rug, so I want to expand on this and employ more variation in line weights.

Reflection

From this I learned the importance of accuracy, and hitting your marks. I very much enjoy the use of perspective to design a space, and tracing paper is extremely useful when looking at the overlap of different objects in the space. This project contained many exercises, all of which I enjoyed. Throughout the still life exercises, I reminded myself to draw what I saw, not what I thought it should look like. This helped me remain true to the angles and perspective within the still life. I would like to incorporate more personal items in my studio, such as detailing the photos and windows, and adding a laptop and other objects onto the desk. I also want to add texture to the floor, implying hardwood panels, and changing the rug to an irregular shape to juxtapose the rectangular majority. As this is my first project, I will be sure to be precise and make use of the tools I have in future projects.
