“Re-Material” by Natalie Lucas

I explore a switch in materiality from what one expects to see when looking at familiar shapes. Thinking of items one typically sees in a gallery, what kinds of sculpture we classify as “art,” I settled on jewelry, a category of sculpture I find myself drawn to in museums and similar displays. Here I recreate the familiar using different forms of tissue: membranes, veins, tumors, warts, pimples, nails, intestines.
