Glider design project

Project goals

  • Improve understanding of aerodynamics concepts
  • Design 3D printed glider using manual airfoil calculations and 3D analysis
  • Test limitations of lightweight 3D printing

Design specifications

  • Nominal freestream velocity of twice walking speed (2.8m/s)
  • Designed for standard atmospheric conditions
  • Designed for NACA 4412 for relatively high lift at zero angle of attack
  • 69mm chord length
  • Wingspan of 300mm (to best utilize Prusa i3 build volume)Design specifications

  • Developed to determine viability of 0.25mm thick walls
  • Determined internal structure needed, nTopology latticing attempted but caused issues
