Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. In high school I achieved academic enrichment through numerous advanced placement (AP) classes. Through these classes I learned copious amounts on information about a large variety of fields of study. It helped me decide my major as it enabled me to learn what I do and do not like. These high level classes also gave me an opportunity to teach myself the best study techniques that will allow me the achieve my academic goals in the future. For example, my AP Biology class only had a midterm and final, just like college, and this helped me prepare mentally for the stress associated with having only a few tests that make up so much of my grade.

In the future I plan on gaining leadership experience here at the Ohio State University through a student organization. An obstacle to this is deciding which organization would be best for me to be a leader in and which one I can become a leader in. I am a member of a few organizations such as the Hispanic Business Student Association and the Rugby club. Both of these organizations have been very beneficial to me so I plan on becoming a leader in one of these, although there are more options available to me.

For this presentation I studied electric vehicles, looking into how they work and how specific components of such vehicles work, such as the motor. I studied this topic because current internal combustion engines release a very large amount of carbon emissions, increasing the rate of global warming, so it is very important to know about greener alternatives.I found that the major problems that prevent electric vehicles from becoming the dominant form of transportation is the cost of the vehicles and the performance of the battery, which has a very limited range.
