Mural Project

The idea I had with my mural focuses around a building in New Albany near Johnson’s ice cream and the gym. Frankly, I was pretty stumped with my ideas but I always thought the brick buildings were nice but too bland. The only building with character is the Mellow Mushroom down the road, but even then the colors in the restaurant’s mural conformed with the bland look of the city. I chose this wall because it is next to a couple of hotspots from the road, so seeing it would be pretty inevitable. The bright neon colors and lettering broke from that “fancy” brick conformity that I see in the buildings in New Albany. The word “light” came to mind mostly because of how the building looked in the picture, even with sunlight the buildings lacks something. Then I noticed the singular lamp that was on in the image. That lamp solidified that thought, that single light gave the wall more character than the surrounding ones, so I thought to build on that and use light very literally.
