Service Project

For those whose hearts have a little bit of a wild side, Forest Animal Rescue is a lifetime care sanctuary for non-releasable wild animals who have narrowly survived lives of abuse or neglect. The animals have been confiscated by authorities, used in research, abandoned to starve or have been attempted pets that failed because of their wild nature. At Forest Animal Rescue these animals are given the best veterinary care, a healthy diet and playmates of their own kind as appropriate. They regain confidence as their bodies gain strength, and they learn to appreciate the humans who have come to their aid. The animals in their care range from big cats to bears, wolves, primates, bats and more. I was able to directly interact with these animals by working on the construction of the sanctuary and helping manage the acres by building animal enclosures, clearing forest for enclosures, and assisting in any repairs needed.

Informational Interview

My interview was with a member of my fraternity (Phi Gamma Delta) who currently works at Merrill Lynch. He graduated from The Ohio State University in 2016 and has been working for them almost a year now. He majored in Finance with a minor in Economics and said that Fishers Business School taught him valuable lessons to succeed at his job. He told me that I need to take every single class seriously, for he did not and now regrets it because there were lessons that could have helped him succeed more today. Furthermore, he told me if one day I want to get an internship or a job at Merrill Lynch I must keep my gpa above a 3.5, continue being involved and hold leadership positions and gain real life business experience just like he did. In conclusion, I know I want to be a financial advisor after my interview with Mark, who truly showed me all the benefits of becoming one at Merrill Lynch.

Do

Campus provides many opportunities for fun activities. Many of my friends that I have become close to love going outside to play sports. Therefore, one day we planned on going out to play soccer and have a massive game instead of just usually kicking the ball around. This was so much fun, for not only did we finally get to take shots on a goal, but we also got to play on an actually field. We ended up playing for hours and even though we did not do anything else for the rest of the day, it was completely worth going out and playing with my friends soccer.

Go

As for going to new places, a couple of weeks ago, a group of friends and myself decided to go to sky zone together. I have never been to sky zone before until this occurrence when we were given the opportunity to go. Sky zone is the world’s first indoor trampoline park. They are the inventors of having fun while doing fitness and the makers of trampolines that one can jump on to reach crazy heights. They give you one of the greatest workouts while nevertheless having fun at the same time as well. I definitely recommend this place for the incredible dodgeball games one can have and the amount of fun you will have with friends.

Eat

Growing up, I was always exposed to different kinds of food, because of the culture I grew up in. Therefore, when my family took me out to eat at the Melt, I was shown many different types of foods that were combined like I’ve never seen before, My uncle wanted me to try something I would never get usually on a sandwich…breakfast. I never thought that deep frying a sandwich with egg, bacon, sausage, and cheese on it would actually taste that good, but naturally my uncle was right and that was one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. I would go back without any hesitation.

Year in Review

I believe since last year I have changed drastically. Not only have I gone from changing my major’s multiple times, but I have finally actually found what my true passion is to do in life. I have chosen that I would like to become a Finance, German, and International Studies major. Later on, I would like to either get my MBA or Law degree focusing on health care. My expectations and preconceived notions of HSS were not changed throughout the year, for I knew that scholars would be a good amount of work and time we would have to put forth. On the other hand, I thought college freshman year wouldn’t have been this tough, for being able to time yourself with everything is something that I am still continuously improving on. My goals for the second year in HSS is being able to find a more better understanding of what health professions interest me that would then align to business and law. I also would like to do more service in the city of Columbus in order to be able to see a greater impact that it makes in the neighborhoods around us. My most memorable service experience was being able to go on a buckiserv trip to Biloxi, Mississippi. At this location I got to help by taking evasive species out of their unnatural habit as well as got the experience of creating to baseball fields for children who really needed them in their community after Hurricane Katrina. Being able to go to both of these locations and not knowing and seeing at first what kind of impact a single person can make to eventually seeing the amount of work that my friends and I did in five days was the greatest thing I have ever seen. Due to this experience, I became very close with many of the people on this trip and will having lasting friendships for the years to come.

Eat. Go. Do

I plan to go eat at Curl Market, for I have not been there yet, but have heard some positive things about it.

Furthermore, I plan on going to Mad River Mountain which is a ski resort just northwest from The Ohio State University.

Lastly, I plan on doing more soccer and business activities with The Ohio State University.

Final Strategic Life Plan-Career

Initially at the start of this year I believed that I would be a pre-med student with a major in economics and German. After experiences with chemistry and at the James Cancer hospital, I realized that being a doctor is not for me and therefore have decided to switch my major entirely. I am now a Business major with a specialization in Finance and Accounting, as well as a German major. Furthermore, after this semester I have a better understanding of how to use specific internet resources of OSU and how to find resources for help in Math and Economics. I also now have a better understanding of how to stay healthy and have a better balanced life than before. I know get some sleep even if it is just a few hours, as well as workout ever day and do homework and study for quizzes and tests in advanced instead of the night beforehand. This vies versa has helped me in having more time for extracurricular activities and social events which in turn make life less full of stress. Continuously, the wisdom that I have been given by faculty members and upperclassmen have been vital in which they all have told me practice is key in succeeding in their class. They also have related to me that I will find my way and if I want to achieve a specific thing they will tell me how I could accomplish that in the best way possible. Lastly, next semester I would like to grow by continuing my studies in business and possibly getting very good grades in order to succeed in what I want to accomplish by next semester.
