Hello there,
Welcome to my Design Portfolio!
“Good design is invisible, and bad design is everywhere.”
Reflection on Design
The above sentence is my favorite quote reflecting my idea of design. We are surrounded by design, and objects we use daily, such as housewares and vehicles, have all gone through an elaborate and time-intensive design process. The definition of a good or bad design usually varies between individuals due to their different perspectives. Noticing good design is more challenging than catching bad design because insufficiency and inconvenience stand out the most in our eyes. In my opinion, design is to create things for users so aesthetically and conveniently that they find good design invisible.
Bio
My name is Brian Byun from South Korea. I am a first-year at The Ohio State University and a Design Foundation student looking forward to majoring in Industrial Design. I have been living in the U.S. for four years and enjoying my new life here so far. lIn my free time, I like sketching, playing, and watching sports, and photo-editing. I am a motivated and hard-working student. I am currently interested in Industrial Design but willing to change my interested major at any time. Although I do not have professional experience in design, I’m really excited to learn about design, build a basis for my design education, and meet new people here at OSU.
Noteworthy Information
Creating something new has always been my interest my whole life. When I was young, I used to spend my free time sketching cars and animals and coloring them. As getting older, I was looking for other artistic activities and started drawing stuff, such as vehicles and sports products, with my own idea and imagination, which developed my creativity. After getting into high school, I took a Studio Art class for two years and received Exemplary 2D Artwork twice. My family and I felt confident in my decent artistic ability, especially in designing. Then I decided to develop essential skills for my design education in college. I was interested in other majors related to art but chose Industrial Design because designing relaxes me and makes the best use of my creativity.
What Excites Me About the Design Process
My primary goal is to become a good designer who makes people’s everyday comfortable and improves their life quality by designing innovative and convenient products. I always want something visually appealing and aesthetic that positively changes my every day. My journey to becoming a designer has just started, and I am excited to learn about skills, such as communication and visualization, that would not only make me a better design student but also help me become an intuitive and insightful person.
