GOALS

Global awareness is the understanding of issues that effect not only the things you experience every day, but the entire world and how it works. Since science is a universal subject, I am looking forward to becoming more globally aware by studying abroad and learning about how other cultures and locations study and approach science.

Original inquiry is using your own mind and thought process to figure out problems and explore theories. I plan to get active with research and use my own thoughts and ideas to figure out concepts and help solve problems.

Academic Engagement is taking initiative and action for the grades you earn, and doing all you can to have the best education possible. Taking on a minor in political science or business will help me to further engage myself in academics, as well as taking challenging courses throughout college.

Leadership is being able to stand out in a crowd of people who are exactly like you. In the future, I hope to be an upperclassman mentor in scholars and hopefully be on the board committee to help plan meetings and events.

Service enrichment is being involved in ways that do not just further yourself, but further other people. After teaching refugee children over the summer at home in Cleveland, I hope to find a similar program in Columbus to help out. Additionally, I would like to volunteer at the Wexner medical center since I am interested in attending medical or dental school.

Scholars Zoo Event

On Sunday September 24th, I was able to attend the scholar’s behind the scenes zoo trip. My special event was the Manatee enclosure, where I got to feed manatees lettuce and learn about their care, feeding habits, and how they are taken care of. Here, I learned how unique and passionate the Columbus Zoo really is. The manatees they take care of are all hurt or orphaned manatees that need help to survive. Before this event, I wasn’t a huge fan of zoos because it seemed as though the animals were pretty sad and inactive in their enclosures. However, after learning about the important rehabilitation of these injured manatees, my opinion about the Columbus Zoo is much better and I fully support what they do!
