Dr. Burris selected as a Fellow of the American Concrete Institute

Dr. Burris was selected as an ACI Fellow as of March 30, 2025. Selection as a fellow evidences extended commitment by an ACI member to the mission of the Institute:

“A Fellow shall have made outstanding contributions to the production or use of concrete materials, products, and structures in the areas of education, research, development, design, construction, or management. In addition, a Fellow shall have made significant contributions to ACI through committees and/or local chapters.”

Dr. Burris has been a member of ACI since 2008, when she joined as a M.S. student while working for Dr. Kyle Riding at Kansas State University. Since that time she has supported ACI through membership in multiple committees: 240 – Pozzolans, for which she is the current chair; 236 – Materials Science of Concrete, which she currently serves as an officer; 232 – Coal Ash in Concrete, voting member; 123- Research; and 231 – Early Age Properties of Concrete. Dr. Burris also supports the Central Ohio Chapter of ACI (ACICOC) as a board member, since 2018, and assists as a proctor for local area ACI Field Technician 1 certification sessions, conducted by Ohio Concrete. Dr. Burris was awarded a local chapter scholarship from the Central Texas Chapter of ACI in 2013, the ACI Young Member Award for Professional Achievement in 2022, and the ACI Walter P. Moore Jr. Faculty Achievement award in 2023.

“Being a member of ACI has not only provided me with information about concrete and concrete research, but has also given me perspective on the work concrete producers, engineers, and contractors do as part of the construction team to create durable concrete infrastructure. This helps to ensure my research work is done with purpose, and is solution-oriented towards solving real-world problems and having impact on current industry practice. ACI has also provided innumerable opportunities to make connections, and even friendships, within the industry. I highly recommend that every Civil Engineering student become an active member of their local chapter, and the national ACI organization.”
