Module 7: Maintaining Motivation

In this module, the most useful thing I learned about were the countless amount of websites and apps that are available for our use to focus on specific tasks and work. Being able to know that these resources are out there for our benefit, gives us the advantage to utilize these resources when we can’t focus on our own. So far, I have been using an app called Focus Keeper (https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/e/2PACX-1vTsf2ZT9EM1lbzVBxgTSPu-BrF5YV3bmw2r6qDdoZyBN_JX34mJ81sheuvdDWjhUTP9pO7VeGS2jOmt/pub?start=false&loop=false&delayms=3000&slide=id.g3cec32e736_0_102), which helps track time and the amount of days you have used it for to complete specific tasks and achieving your goal by completing those tasks. There are many things I learned from this module and motivation is a keep factor in being able to complete tasks in a timely manner. Using these different apps, I can use these later in my career especially for independent work to break tasks into individual steps and then completing each step to complete my goal which is to finish a project. Advice I would give to both students and working professionals based on what I’ve read during this module is for all of us to remember that our goals can be humongous but if we break them down into steps and plan effectively, we can achieve any goal in a period of time and remembering not to stress out or devote every single minute to the case. Remember to take a breather and breaks, the success will come as long as you work at it.

Module 6: Searching and Researching

In this module, the most useful things I learned were evaluating credible resources and understanding that each search engine can have specific uses. From the lecture slide (https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/e/2PACX-1vQZrj92KI3pYOhE3FI5nQiDiNr7c6RnxVvE-i4BthXmA5EmgV3mlKmiYpH6NqqR7Br1ApVFUxrLnkr7/pub?start=false&loop=false&delayms=3000&slide=id.g3b7a4ea15f_0_42)it shows the difference between search engines like google.com (keyword), yahoo.com (category) and search.com (metasearch), I developed a better understanding of which search engines to use and how to use them better in researching activities. The tool I actively use is google.com because I have had many good sources that came from google.com and many of the sources I find are usually credible and reliable to use so that’s why I typically rely on google more than other search engines. Understanding how to research is a big deal in assignments. Being able to search is one thing, but researching takes much more time and effort to produce the best knowledge you can provide. Ideas to gain from this module and practice in the future is using multiple search engines and know which ones to use to find the most credible and best resource for myself. Advice I can give to students from this module is to always figure out first what you are searching for within your research and from there, establish what sources you want to take information from and make sure they are credible by doing a background check on the source itself.

Module 5: Web-Enhanced Listening and Viewing Strategies

In this weeks module, the most useful thing I learned was my note taking style. I understood how and why I took notes the way I did, which is to categorize and translate information in a way i’d understand it when I looked back over it. I already knew the way I liked to take my notes but after watching a video on note taking styles, I figured out what note taking skills I utilized (https://youtu.be/Yc5qyMTjO3k). Comparing my note taking to the others in the video, I had similarities to both (Cornell notes/Outline note) but my notes were more in favor as a Outline style. My notes are organized, clear and has the main points. Ideas from this module I could put into practice are writing on paper. Being able to write on paper helps me to remember the information whether than typing information on the computer and then worrying about formatting it to my liking to remember it. It can be time consuming so I’d rather write my notes in the future instead of typing them out. Advice I can give to other students, based on this module, would be to figure out your type of note taking style and use it to the best of your ability. Understand how you process information such as if you like keywords or need lecture slides word for word. From there, you can know how to make the most out of your notes and be prepared for class and exams every time.

Module 3: Efficiency in the Digital Age

Procrastination is a contagious mindset to have. Being able to successfully maintain your time, goals and everyday life can truly be a struggle when your mind directs you every where but the task at hand that needs to be completed. The most useful thing I learned about procrastination are based on 3 ways on how to control it and avoid procrastinating from a YouTube video, https://youtu.be/VA8D1cGW5Qk. After watching the video and I realized that I have already disciplined myself to take my goals into smaller steps to achieve my goals that the video first described. One of the few goals I had was to not procrastinate as much or at all, which is very hard, but I managed to procrastinate less by taking advantage of using calendars and sheer will to get my work done first so that I will have time later to do what I really want to do. I live by the philosophy work hard, play hard but as you see, working hard comes first so I can achieve my goals first and then enjoy the satisfaction of the reward of it. A thing that I could put into practice from this module is better utilizing writing down my tasks rather than mentally doing it, so in situations like that I should keep a handy notebook on me to right down my thoughts and tasks at hand to do. My advice to students would be to always break down your big goals to small steps as each one will lead to your main goal. Take your time but work hard because eventually, you’ll have to work to achieve your goal.
