In the archives, it said that the current Ohio Union Building is the third building to be called the Ohio Union. The first building was on 12th Avenue and opened in 1911. It became too small when enrollment grew after World War 2. Students agreed to pay five dollars per quarter to help pay for a new building in 1946. This new building opened on High Street in 1951. In 2007, the building had become outdated, so it was closed and destroyed that year to make room for the new building. The new, and current, building has the bronze statue of Brutus and some historical aspect of the older buildings. The six panel reliefs from the second building that show the history of the Ohio River, along with two new panels, are displayed on the 11th avenue side of the building.
The Ohio Union is a great place to grab foot, hang out with friends, study or just wander around in. There are three floors at the union. On the first floor there is a few areas to sit and there is the Union Market which offers a different variety of food that the tradition locations don’t offer. There is a really nice lounge area on the second floor. The third floor contains a place for BuckIDs where you can either get your BuckID during orientation or to get a replacement if you ever lose or break yours. In the Great Hall, you will also see sculptures hanging from the ceiling.
I go to the Union Building on Fridays to get food between before my Engineering class. It is about a 20-minute walk from Morrill to The Union Building.
