Tools for Effective Interprofessional Teamwork

(Level 1 Students) 

 Target Audience:

Students who have completed Fundamentals of Interprofessional Teamwork and have little experience practicing in interprofessional teams. 

BuckIPE Core Competencies addressed: 

  • Communication: Communicate in a responsive, responsible, respectful, and compassionate manner with team members.
  • Teams and Teamwork: Apply values and principles of team science to adapt one’s own role in a variety of team settings.
  • Evidence-Based Practice: Utilize evidence to inform all aspects of interprofessional teamwork.

Session Dates/Times:

  • A: 1/23/26, 2:45-4:45 pm
  • B: 1/23/26, 12:30-2:30 pm
  • C: 1/30/26, 2:45-4:45 pm
  • D: 1/30/26, 12:30-2:30 pm
  • E: 2/6/26, 12:30-2:30 pm
  • F: 2/6/26, 2:45-4:45 pm
  • Make-up**: 2/12/26, 5:30 pm-7:30 pm

Format:

In teams, students explore and practice evidence-based communication and teamwork tools.  Students work together to critically evaluate the use of communication tools in health care and population health scenarios, considering application to their future practice/careers.   

Facilitator role:

Facilitators circulate among teams, observing, coaching, and enabling team behaviors and providing guidance as students reflect on the scenarios presented.  They also model the communication tools and provide guidance on their experience with them.   

Facilitator to student/team ratio:

1 to 56 students (7 teams) 

Required facilitator training 

  1. Complete the Interprofessional Facilitator Skills Training.
  2. Video outlining logistics, activity details, facilitator role
