Fundamentals of Teamwork
(Level 1 Students)
Target Audience:
Students with little to no experience practicing in interprofessional teams.
BuckIPE Core Competencies addressed:
- Values and Ethics: Work with team members to maintain a climate of shared values, ethical conduct, and mutual respect.
- Roles and Responsibilities: Use the knowledge of one’s own role and team members’ expertise to address health outcomes.

- Teams and Teamwork: Apply values and principles of team science to adapt one’s own role in a variety of team settings.
- Evidence-Based Practice: Utilize evidence to inform all aspects of interprofessional teamwork.

Format:
Students work in interprofessional teams to learn about and from a family living in Central Ohio, their social and physical determinants of health, and their goals, needs, and priorities. Students access and share information, discuss key concepts and consider different viewpoints, while completing a series of exercises together. Through these experiences, students practice and reflect on fundamental skills needed for effective interprofessional teamwork.
Facilitator role:
Facilitators circulate among several student teams to answer questions, offer guidance, coach, support goal setting, new skill acquisition, reflection, and debriefing.
Facilitator to student/team ratio:
1 to 56 students (7 teams)
Required facilitator training:
- Complete the Interprofessional Facilitator Skills Training
- Video outlining logistics, activity details, facilitator role
- Video overview of Escape Room and Clues
- Complete the Attestation form for each experience after watching the module specific training. The attestation form needs to be completed for each experience that you facilitate.
