More Meeting, More Pizza!
The next meeting of the Buckeye Tech Forum is fast approaching and we could not be more excited. Next Tuesday, along with FREE PIZZA, we will be welcoming another Ohio State Tech VIP. This month Liv Gjestvang, Ohio State’s AVP of Learning Technology, will speak and take questions on all things ed-tech. Join us to learn more about how Ohio State is leading the digital classroom revolution!
We can’t wait to see you all in Stillman Hall 100 on October 28th at 6:30pm!
To help with the ordering of food, please RSVP by tweeting “Count me in!” @OhioStateTech. If you don’t have Twitter, DON’T FRET! Just email us back at email@example.com.
Important: At the next meeting we will be testing out a new classroom app called NEARPOD. This app will allow anyone with an iOS, Android, PC or Mac to follow along with the presentation, give feedback, and ask questions in real time! We ask that you come to the meeting on the 28th with a device with Nearpod set up. The app can be found on the Apple App Store and Google Play, as well as a browser version (for PC and Mac) at nearpod.com. Upon arrival, you will be given a passcode to join the BTF presentation.
We hope to see you there!
Building a Stronger Student Org with U.OSU
Being a part of a student organization is a juggling act. Student leadership has to deal with everything from the planning of events to the ever important recruitment. Throw on top of that a healthy dose of internal politics and it’s enough to make any student’s head swim.
We here at the Buckeye Tech Forum understand your struggles and just like that overly-flirtatious guy across the hall, we’re here to help.
More specifically, U.OSU, the professional blogging service now available FOR FREE to any Ohio State student, is here to help! Did we mention that it’s super easy to use? If we didn’t, we apologize, but we’re super-cereal when we say that U.OSU is the easiest way to combine the quick communication of Twitter and the traditional posting ability of WordPress.
That being said, here are a few tips and tricks from a fellow student org that will help you to easily and effectively utilize the greatness that is U.OSU!
Twitter. Is. Everywhere. In 140 characters (or less) you can get your org’s message out to thousands with a tap or click. But sometimes what you have to say goes beyond that character limit. Maybe you want to post the minutes from your last meeting, but unless you’re using some crazy form of short-hand, it’s going to be quite difficult to fit it in one tweet. Instead, try tweeting a link to your U.OSU post containing said minutes. That will help drive traffic to your site, all while keeping interested parties in the loop with all your student org going-ons.
On the subject of Twitter, I bet you don’t know just how easy it is to integrate your Twitter feed into your U.OSU page! Luckily, our friends at the ODEE Resource Center have already posted an easy to follow how-to guide.
Another helpful feature for racking up those page views is the ‘tag option’. Just like other social media services, U.OSU offers the ability to attach key words and phrases to your post.
As I’m sure you already know, tags are a great way to categorize your posts and draw additional page views from those who are interested in similar topics.
Look at any article on any webpage. See those social media icons at the top and bottom of the article? Those are helpful little buttons that allow you to share the latest BuzzFeed list with your army of followers.
Now, with U.OSU, you have the ability to add that same functionality to all of your posts, making it easy for your viewers to share your latest post all across the interwebs!
To do this is very simple and again, our friends at ODEE have put together a video guide on how to add this awesome function to your page!
Come one, come all!
To Freshman, with <3
Oh, to be young again. To walk the Oval with nary a care. Studying and exams seem to be but a blip on your collective horizon…Excuse me while I excrete senior-tears into my legally purchased, adult beverage.
Alright, I’m OK now…
I know you all have been inundated with a seemingly endless barrage of “Freshman Tips and Tricks”, so I’ll be short. I present to you my two rules of freshman year:
Rule #1: If you need help, ask for it.
Seriously people. Ask questions, it’s what college is for! You’ll find most people around OSU are ready, willing and able to help you; whether that be for tutoring, directions to your next lecture, which class to take, ect. Everyone here has been in your shoes at some point and they don’t smell that bad.
Rule #2: Go to class!
Another no brainer, but I know what it is like to be fresh out of highschool, where you were locked inside an educational prision from 7am-2pm every day. You have a ton of freedom now…use it, but don’t abuse it. Not going to classes is like going to the most expensive restaurant in town, ordering a filet mignon w/ all the fixins and then not eating it!
That’s it everyone. If you follow my two rules, I can guarantee…actually I can’t, but I’m pretty sure that if you follow them you’ll have a much easier go of this whole freshman year thing.
It’s Gribben Time!
Friends, Ohioans, country(wo)men, lend me your ear.
It’s that time of the year…
Time to change your OSU password!
Every 180 days you receive the dreaded email from Mr. Bob Gribben…to ease your suffering, here’s a video of Bobby G responding to mean tweets.
Digital Union VIP Tour
Alright, let’s get this out of the way. This wasn’t a VIP tour in the traditional sense…no paparazzi hounded us, no bottles were popped…there was a red carpet though!
Today, we were lucky enough to get a little sneak peak of the new Digital Union (DU) in the basement of Denny Hall! If you haven’t had a chance to utilize a DU on campus, you are missing out. Currently, spread across campus, are four DU’s that offer the FREE use of iMacs (fully equipped with whatever software you may need).
However, the newest Digital Union in Denny is a different animal entirely. Besides an amazing conference room, the Denny DU contains a creative’s dream space!
Step inside a fully equipped recording studio, complete with top-of-the-line gear and with acoustics designed by music industry pros!
Need to record a video for a class project? Just want to film yourself running away from a massive boulder like Indiana Jones? All of this is possible, and more, in the Denny DU one-touch recording space! With one press of the touchscreen control panel, you can be filmed and lit like a pro. Complete with three 1080p cameras, professional lighting rigs, and a green screen; YouTube fame is at your fingertips!
