The rules for inviting speakers are as follows:
- Invitations of speakers who are Nobel laureates, National Academy of Sciences (NAS) members, and Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) investigators will be granted automatically. For speakers in Category 1 you will just need to check with the committee for available dates.
- Other speakers will be evaluated by the MLS Seminar Committee based on whether they are doing cutting-edge research of broad appeal and/or if they are pioneering new methods that may not be well represented on campus. Those who wish to invite Category 2 speakers will need to respond to the aforementioned criteria by submitting a short justification, which should include a CV or similar web link with a list of the proposed speaker’s recent publications, to the seminar committee for evaluation.
- We encourage invitations of women, under-represented minorities, and emerging young investigators working in high-impact areas. We also encourage nominations from MCDB and OSBP graduate students.
Speakers of high caliber can be hard to schedule, which is a good reason to start thinking now about speakers for next year. Please contact us as soon as possible to jump start the process. MCDB and OSBP provide administrative support to handle all travel and reimbursements. Hosts are expected to assemble the schedule and handle coordination on the day of the seminar.
Please contact Harold Fisk (fisk.13@osu.edu) with your nominations and thanks for your support of the MLS Seminar Program.
