Newark

Hello!

Congratulations on your admission to the College of Social Work BSSW at the Newark campus!  We are so happy you will be joining the class of 2024. If we haven’t met, my name is Raegan Donchess and I am the Social Work Field and Program Coordinator for the Newark BSSW program. My role is to guide you as you navigate your undergraduate education and explore your future career in Social Work. I am also here and happy to answer any questions that you have along the way.

Now that you have been admitted here is what to expect in the upcoming months before next fall semester starts:

  • We will have our mandatory orientation to the BSSW program on August 14, 2024, at 12:00 noon, location TBD. We will be providing lunch so come hungry! Be sure to check your OSU email account for more details regarding this during spring semester.
  • For fall semester, fulltime students should enroll in the following major courses to stay on track to complete the BSSW degree in two years:

Social Work 3101: Professional Values and Ethics

Social Work 3401: Research Methods and Statistics for Social Work Problems

Social Work 350: Engagement and Interviewing

Social Work 3600: Introduction to Psychopathology and Social Work Practice

Additionally,

  • Part-time or 2ndyear students should enroll in Social Work 3101 and Social Work 3600 for Autumn Semester.
  • All students have the option to register for a Social Work elective or any remaining GEC coursework. For more information about degree requirements Access curriculum guides and the list of social work major courses, social work electives, and GEs here. You can also run an update degree audit to determine what course requirements you have remaining.
  • If you have any questions about the Social Work Program, feel free to reach out to me. Please email me at donchess.3@osu.edu  to set up a time for us to connect.

*Please note that your admission is contingent upon successful completion of all pre-major courses prior to Autumn Semester 2024 and maintaining a CPHR and PPHR (GPA within the pre-major courses) of 2.0 or above. Inability to meet this condition will void acceptance into the major. Should this occur, you may submit a new major declaration form for a future semester.  If you are transferring into the social work major from another university, your admission to the major is also contingent upon being admitted to The Ohio State University.

Be sure to check your OSU email account frequently and also over the summer.  The College will only send information to that account.  Again, congratulations and we look forward to a great class start in the fall!

Warmly,

Raegan
