Weedy Podcasts

If webinars aren’t your thing, don’t worry there are weedy podcasts out there for you! Another great resource is the “War Against Weeds” podcast.  This podcast features guests with expertise in a variety of aspects of weed science, and discussions on integrated weed management, herbicide resistance, and other timely topics. The podcast is hosted by Sarah Lancaster, Kansas State Extension Weed Science Specialist, Mandy Bish, Extension Weed Scientist at the University of Missouri, and Joe Ikley, Extension Weed Scientist at North Dakota State. Take Action Weed Management Webinars

Given how messed up the whole herbicide supply and price thing is right now, it might be a good time to take advantage of free resources to improve your herbicide and weed management acumen.  The USB Take Action program and university weed scientists are once again conducting a series of webinars to cover several key topics in weed management.  Three webinars occur this month, and will be followed by the release of videos covering other pertinent weed-related subjects.  January webinars include the following:

4-H Teen Opportunities Deadline Approaching

The deadline for teens to apply for 4-H Award Trips is January 15th. 

This includes scholarships for Senior Shooting Sports Camp, Leadership Camp, Sea Camp, and Citizenship Washington Focus. These camps/trips are open to all 4-H youth, but each event may have specific age guidelines. Refer to http://brown.osu.edu/teenopportunities for more details and the link to the application. Interviews will be held on January 20th for all applicants.

Ohio Beef Cow/Calf Workshop – Herd Nutrition

The 2022 Cow Calf Workshop will be held on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at 9:00am-2:30pm at Scott Farms (9681 U.S. 68, Georgetown, OH 45121). This workshop provides the opportunity to receive hands-on experience along with great information from a number of different people.  Topics and speakers include: Optimizing Forage Fertility– James Morris, OSU Extension Brown County; Feed Sampling and Nutrient Analysis– Ted, Wiseman, OSU Extension Perry County; Feedstuff Evaluation and Processing– Erik Scott, Scott Farms; Planning Cow Management and Feeding Mineral– Garth Ruff, OSUE Beef Cattle Field Specialist; Body Condition Scoring and Facilities– Stan Smith, OSU Extension Fairfield County. There is a $10 fee that covers lunch that day and the materials that you will need during the workshop. In order to attend participants need to PRE-REGISTER BY FEBRUARY 17, 2022. Checks can be made payable to OSU Extension, and can be mailed into the Brown County Extension Office at 325 W. State. St. Georgetown, OH 45121.  The registration is listed below.

 

2022 Ohio Weed University

The 2022 Ohio Weed University will be held on Thursday February 3, 2022 from 9:00am-4:00pm in Adams County at the Cherry Fork Community Center. Weed University is a program designed to keep agronomic producers on the cutting edge in weed control for their cropping operations. Topics addressed will include hot topics in weed control, local weed issues, biology and identification of weeds, control strategies, cover crop management in forages and evaluating herbicides. Hands-on exercises will be included. Featured speakers will include Dr. Mark Loux and Alyssa Essman from The Ohio State University. Cherry Fork Community Center is located at 14825 State Route 136 Winchester Ohio 45397.
