Artifacts

Lacrosse- My artifact that played a huge role in shaping me into who I am today is the experience I had in the sport of lacrosse during my years in high school. Playing a team sport really showed me how much teamwork is needed and a failure of it can be a huge problem for the team. This picture was from my senior year where we had many troubles and fought a lot between ourselves and it hurt the team dynamic. We faltered that year and lost some important games that we could have won if we only bonded more and worked as a team better. I will never forget this experience and I feel that it has made me a better team player. Losing those games that we should have easily won but couldn’t because of fighting really showed me the power of team dynamics.

Video games- Another large artifact of my life is video games, especially the PlayStation 3. They have played a huge part in my life and I would not be the same person without them. This was my first gaming console that I can really remember playing, and I spent so much time with it. I would play my brothers in everything and I grew up with this. I remember distinctly when we first got it and setting it up to play in our basement, I’ll never forget the feeling of it starting up and all of us cheering. This really started me into videogames and made me love them, and now it is one of my biggest hobbies. Now this system is very old, coming out in the early 2000’s and it really shows its age. It is bulky and loud and the graphics for the games are terrible, but I keep this artifact with me because it reminds me of growing up and all the fun time that I had, and I genuinely feel that I would not be anywhere near the same if it was not for that system.

About Me

I am Kevin Brown, and this is all about me. I am from a suburb outside of Pittsburgh PA called Shaler and have lived there my whole life. I was born on April 13th, 2000. I have three older brothers ranging from eight years older to two. I am the fourth boy after Matthew, Michael, and Dillon. My family has one pet and it is a cat and her name is Mittens. I am a part of the class of 2022 in the college of engineering. I am a pre-major in engineering undecided. Many of my aunts and uncles are engineers and hearing about what they do throughout my life was a major reason why I chose to study engineering. I am in the organization ECOS, which is Engineering for Community Service. In this organization, I help to build a wheelchair ramp for a family in the Columbus area. All my life I have had interests not only in science and math, but also to help people. So being in ECOS and in humanitarian engineering scholars has really helped me to be able to bring these interests together into one. I hope to end up in a job that helps others and not just the company that I work for.

Top 5 strengths:

  1. Consistency- Treating everyone equally is a major part to my life because throughout my life I have had many friends with different backgrounds and I feel that they all deserve equality because it is one of the most basic thing that everyone has a right to.
  2. Analytical- I am a huge fan of numbers and analysis, I love to look and understand data and the reasons behind each data set.
  3. Harmony- Every person getting along is one of the most perfect things to me, I feel that grudges and hatred only bring problems to anything from a team to a classroom.
  4. Adaptability- Go with the flow is a great way to describe me and how I truly can adapt to any situation. A time I showed how well I was at adapting was in senior year of high school for my lacrosse team I completely changed my position due to injuries at other positions and did a great job.
  5. Deliberative- I am a very cautious person making sure to have a plan for everything and making sure everything goes to plan, and if it does not, I have back up plans just in case.

G.O.A.L.S.

To explore Columbus and all it has to offer, my APP took us to The Fourth Street Bar and Grill. We went at 7 o’clock on Thursday and it was a very enjoyable time. The bar and grill had a happy hour of food where burgers were only three dollars and appetizers were half off. She took us here because the food was extremely cheap and very delicious, and she was completely right. That was the best part of the experience really because it was great to have a great meal and for it not to break the bank as a college student. There were some negatives like it being loud and the table being long so it was almost impossible to talk to someone if they were not directly next to you. This was a problem because I could only talk to half of the group that went with. This really showed me how many great dive places there are around where you could get great food for a cheap price. I would go again because the food was that good, even if it was a hike to get there.

For the next Columbus to do list, some friends and I went to the Olentangy river trail and walked around it for a while. It was a very nice day out, except for it being a little cold and windy. We went on Tuesday November 27th and went about a mile through the trail. The best part of the walk was how beautiful it was out and being able to screw around with my friends in a new location, mixing it up. The walk was also great because it really cleared my head and relaxed me which is very important with the next upcoming stressful weeks. Next time I would dress even better for the weather because even though I wore plenty of layers, it still was very cold and blustery. I would definitely recommend it to a friend because it is close to campus but you can really get deep into it and get to seclude yourself from the busy campus lifestyle for a little. All in all it was a very enjoyable time and I loved every second of it.
