Kickoff for the 7th Season of Home Garden Trials!

We are thrilled to announce the launch of the 7th season of our Home Garden Trials! This year, we have an exciting lineup of vegetables, flowers, and herbs to enhance your garden.

Our trials include five cool-season vegetables: beets, carrots, lettuce, peas, and spinach, as well as five warm-season vegetables: green beans, cucumbers, summer squash, sweet peppers, and cherry tomatoes.

We are also excited to bring back flowers and herbs this season with zinnias and parsley to add color and flavor to your garden. For our youth trial, we are featuring crazy beans, a fun and engaging plant for young gardeners to enjoy!

The deadline to order your trials is February 16. Each trial costs $3, plus $8 shipping for home delivery or $4 for pickup at your local county extension office.

The 2023 Home Garden Trials: A Year in Review

The results of the 2023 Home Garden Trials have just been released, marking the fifth year of this insightful project. With 96 dedicated gardeners participating across 35 counties, the trials continue to provide valuable data on home gardening practices and outcomes.

Medina County Leads the Way

This year, Medina County stood out with the highest number of participants, boasting 12 enthusiastic gardeners. The diversity in experience among all participants was remarkable, ranging from beginners with no prior gardening knowledge to seasoned veterans with over 70 years of experience. Interestingly, the largest cohort of participants had around 30 years of gardening under their belts, showcasing a wealth of knowledge and skill in the group.
