Throughout this course, I learned many important things about online tools and resources. For example, the Purdue Owl site, an online writing guide, is able to help layout papers in MLA or APA format. Also, this site correctly shows how to cite one’s sources. Along with Purdue Owl, I learned that social media is able to help with group collaborations. With social media, such as Facebook, email, twitter, and Dropbox, people within a group are able to communicate and transfer files. This makes for efficient work habits amongst people reaching a common goal.
Luckily in this class, I learned a lot about myself. I learned that I was previously ignorant to the wonders that technology has the potential to serve my fellow classmates and I. It also occurred to me that previous group projects I have done would have been completed much more efficiently if I had used this blessing that we call the social media to my advantage. I learned how to effectively manage my time. This was done through developing a time spreadsheet and the Google calendar. Lastly, with this class being my first course I’ve taken in college, I learned how to be responsible, make it to class on time, and manage my class schedule with my football schedule.
My most meaningful experience in class was learning the consequences of not handing my work in on time. After handing in one of my assignments late, I was quick to learn that this is no longer high school. Classes are more competitive, the work is far more important to my life goals, and my time needed to be managed much better.
Many of the lessons I learned in this class can be used in my life ahead. Time management is important in all aspects of life. Along with time management, no matter what direction one takes in life, cooperation within groups is crucial. Learning to work with particular applications such as Google calendars and Purdue Owl was very beneficial. These sites allow one to organize his/her thoughts, manage many everyday tasks, and keep track of things that need to be done. With other tactics I learned in this class, I was able to research a topic and find many educational videos that pertain to it. This enabled me to learn about a topic quickly without the use of a book or lecture. This process was very helpful when it came to researching specific things and organizing my thoughts about them. In the future, I believe this process will also prove to be very helpful. In other classes I will be able to use these techniques and hopefully complete my work on time. Overall, this class has been so helpful to my overall experience in my first summer semester. I have no doubts that this first class of mine will fall nothing short of helping me achieve higher goals in classes, football, and life. I am so thankful that this was the first class I have taken at college, and hope I am able to take the lessons I have learned to next levels.
