What Books Would You Recommend?

What If We Were All The Same By C.M. Harris

This book tackles one of todays biggest issues and comes at it in a way that a child would understand. Its good for this age because 6-8 year old’s are starting to understand each others struggles and are able to understand that people aren’t always happy, so this book helps introduce that we should treat all people with respect, no matter there background, ethnicity, or disability they have.

Why Should I Eat Well? By Claire Llewellyn

This book is also educational and teaches us about eating habits and the importance of eating healthy, as well as the implications if we don’t do so. America today has a very high obesity rate and I think its a very good idea to teach about health and food at an early age, especially to adults raising children of their own. Everyone can learn something from this book, and that’s why I think its an important read for kids today.

First Animal Encyclopedia: A First Reference Guide to the Animals of the World By Wendy Horobin

This last book I chose is to help feed the curiosity of a Childs mind when they are ages 6-8. Learning the world around them is likely going to become a new hobby, and this book is a good place to spark their imagination. This book will teach your child about different animals, but also the regions all over the world where they can be found.

What Influences Child Development?

A common misconception people have when thinking about child development is that the child is going to become the way they are based on their genetics passed down, and that everything is built into their minds. This however isn’t the case, although genetics do play an important role to the development of the child, there are an uncountable amount of outside factors that lead up to who they will become, and those factors a lot of times are in the parents control to give there child these experiences to positively impact their lives.
1. Environmental – Beststart.org says that kids who are raised in houses that are dirty could actually have negative impacts on their lives, for example they could hurt themselves if the living space isn’t safe for a child, which can set a precedent that its okay to be dirty that can be carried on in their lives.
2. Culture – Children will always look to an adult figure and or copy off of someone in order to learn how to be social. Cultural things like what you wear or the way you talk will tend to rub off on your children, that’s why its important to act as models when you are around your children
3. Nutrition – Something that people don’t think about when it comes to child development is how they eat. If your child has a poor diet, they are likely to carry that poor dietary habit with them when they get older.
4. Technology – Children today are likely always nearby a electronic device that has an absolute impact on how they are fed information. It is very important to always keep your child looking at the right information online. Make sure to use child blocks and restricted usage when your child surfs online. Its important that kids are monitored to make sure they don’t go on any sites that may be inappropriate for them.

Beststart.org also says that factors such as income, education, and parental employment can also play a larger role in the development of your child directly, or indirectly. Its important to understand that children are always constantly taking in information, that they can use to shape who they are in the future, as a parent its important to use our resources to make sure our kids are taking in all the right kinds of information.
