Module 3: Efficiency in the Digital Age

The most useful thing I have learned in this module is why I procrastinate. I was never really sure why put things off, but the YouTube video posted by faststudyskills that is shown below, made me realize that I procrastinate because I fear failure. I get anxious when thinking about completing assignments and wait until the last minute because I do not want to fail.

Something from Module 3 that I have already put into practice is removing digital distractions by turing off the app notifications on my phone. I turned off some of my app notifications earlier this week and today just removed the rest of them. So far, it has been working out well for me. I did not spend nearly as much time on my phone this week than in prior weeks according to my iPhone’s screen time monitor and I did not feel the urge to unlock my phone as often since I did not see notifications popping up on my screen.

An idea from this module that I could put into practice in the future is reflecting on what distracts me and why I get distracted by it. I think that by being aware of this I could better work on changing my bad distraction and procrastination habits.

Based on what I learned in this module, I would advise students to focus more on understanding why they get distracted and what distracts them, so that they can understand what they are doing. This would allow them to change their habits early into their college career. Setting good study habits early can be helpful in avoiding distractions, avoiding procrastination, and getting overall better grades.
