Acronym Soup: Workplace Edition

acronym_meme

Since starting at ODEE in February I have noticed a particular breed of workplace jargon, the acronym. I’m familiar with this sort of language when it comes to social media. Years of AOL instant messenger taught us BRB, TTYL, and the iconic LYLAS. I didn’t prepare myself, however, for the commonplace dropping of acronyms in the workplace. To avoid raising your hand in a meeting and asking for clarification on what “CYA” means I shall share my newfound wisdom.

ASAP and FYI…

CYA – Cover Your Ass (crucial)

TBD – To Be Determined (easy)

BTW – By the Way OR Back to Work (according to the internet)

EOD – End of Day

COB – Close of Business (synonymous with EOD, IMO)

IMO – In My Opinion

FWIW – For What It’s Worth

I will be accepting acronym submissions to expand my list, though it will never measure up to this one, TBH.
