VIA Character Strengths

Top 5 Character Strengths

Love of Learning

This character strength slightly surprised me. I do love learning, but I didn’t think that it would trump my other top strengths and come out as number one. I do however know that I can use this strength in college and to truly make myself a life long learner in the future.

Humor

I definitely saw this coming. I truly try to make any situation funny even when it should be taken serious; this could be taken as a strength and a weakness. I like to make people laugh and my friends definitely describe me as funny.

Curiosity

I do not really think of myself as a very questioning or curious person, but then I read the description of this strength. It says finding subjects and topics fascinating and I do like to do some deep google searches randomly and I do enjoy watching documentaries or educational Netflix series.

Judgement

At first I read this judgement as a weakness and I thought that it meant I was judgemental in a bad way. It means however that I consider all points of views and don’t jump to conclusions, which I agree with more. I can use this strength to make decisions in the future.

Perspective

This strength was a little confusing to me. I don’t really have a specific way that I look at the world and usually I do not see eye to eye with many people. I can think of a few instances where I have been good at giving advice to others and it being helpful, but this strength seems like I would have to learn more about myself to use it better.

About Me

Hello! My name is Allison Broccolo and I am from Rochester, NY (Specifically Webster if you’re familiar with the area). Some fun facts about my city are that the grocery store Wegmans started here and everyone here LIVES off Wegmans. I’ve never shopped at a Kroger or anywhere that Ohio has, so that will be a very interesting experience not being able to find all my Wegmans brand favorites. We also have a Rochester special called garbage plates, aka my favorite food. A garbage plate might sound and look unappealing, but I can assure you I’ve never met anyone who hates them where I live. It pretty much consists of mac salad and home fries and is topped off with 2 hamburgers, cheeseburgers or hot dogs. On top of that is Rochester signature hot sauce (it’s more of a meat sauce and not very spicy).

A little bit about me more specifically is that I am a swimmer and I love to ski. I really love winter and the snow and I’m hoping there will still be some pretty snowy days down here in Columbus, and if anyone knows where to ski let me know! I really enjot other winter activities like skating, watching hockey, and drinking hot chocolate. While I love frozen water, I also love water in general too. I recently joined the club swim team here at OSU and I’m excited to continue my swimming career after the 12 years I already have under my belt. I’m definitely competitive and need an outlet to get that out of my system, but my poor roommates have to deal with the smell of chlorine wherever I go. I’m also a lifeguard and swim instructor as well. I miss my summer job getting paid to swim around with a bunch of adorable children. Some final things I love as well are concerts and traveling. I definitely have spent an absurd amount of money on the concerts I have been to just this past year (Shawn Mendes, Billie Eilish, Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean and Keith Urban). I also traveled abroad with my high school to Spain and France. It was a great experience and I definitely caught the travel bug a loooong time ago (thanks mom and dad). I hope to study abroad and participate in service-learning trips as much as I can in these next 4 years.

Me at States this year with my relay! We placed in the top 10 this year which was a crazy cool experience.

I live on Lake Ontario in New York, so going to sunsets on the water every night with my friends is a must!

Here is a pic of me at Bristol mountain, my ski resort of choice.

Holding a monkey in Honduras this past Spring break. Monkeys are one of my favorite animals and I had to beg my mom to let me do it.
