Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness: I plan to study abroad to cultivate and develop my appreciation for diversity. Since coming to Ohio State, I believe that my appreciation for different cultures and backgrounds has already spread because of the many different people I have met in my dorm, in the classroom, and through different organizations already in the short time being on campus.

Original Inquiry: By challenging myself with more difficult classes and by getting involved in some type of research at Ohio State, I believe that I will be able to make a unique mark here. I am looking to get into research in the medical field somehow, since that is the career that I am pursuing. Ohio State is the perfect place to be to make an original inquiry, with top research facilities and researchers working on campus everyday.

Academic Enrichment: Starting with taking AP and honors courses in high school, I have always challenged myself in the classroom. By pursing a degree in a competitive and more difficult major, I have already begun to challenge myself in the classroom, and that is something that will continue the next four years and beyond.

Leadership Development: Starting off my being a Mount Leadership Scholar, I have given myself a solid foundation to be able to use my leadership skills everywhere on campus. I served various leadership roles in high school, and it is something that I plan to continue as a Buckeye by getting involved and taking leadership positions in different organizations and projects.

Service Engagement: I have always committed myself to a life of service. Through my schools and churches, I have completed more service hours than I can count. As a student at Ohio State, I think that it is a more important time than ever to give back to a community that gives me so much. Whether that is on campus or throughout the city of Columbus, I am going to engage myself in helping others and encouraging my peers to do the same.

Career

[“Career” is where you can collect information about your experiences and skills that will apply to your future career.  Like your resume, this is information that will evolve over time and should be continually updated.   For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. Artifacts

My first artifact is the quote a quote from my favorite movie, “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” that reads “life moves pretty fast, if you don’t stop and look around once in awhile you could miss it.” I think this quote is true for everyone, no matter where they are in their life. Taking time to appreciate life and not just go through the motions is very important and is something a lot of people forget to do. Ferris serves as a simple reminder that sometimes you just need to live a little to appreciate the life you have. 096ff7c517d055195ab3492a16be2570

About Me

My name is Jordyn Brobst and I am currently a first-year student at The Ohio State University. I have been grown up in Columbus, Ohio almost my entire life, and having loved the city so much, I decided to stay here for another four years as a buckeye. I am majoring in exercise science, with the hopes of going to medical or physician’s assistant school after earning my undergraduate degree. My dream job would be in the medical field working with children, and to become a mom to kids of my own. I am dedicated, passionate, and outgoing, and I enjoy spending my free time watching and playing sports and socializing with friends.

I attended a catholic high school called Bishop Watterson in Columbus, where I was part of the varsity basketball team, leadership and mentoring teams, honor roll, and was the team statistician for the varsity baseball team.  I was also involved in many service projects and mission trip teams, and have made helping those less fortunate than I am something that’s very important to me.

At Ohio State, I am part of the Mount Leadership Society scholars program, where I am able to use and continue to develop my service and leadership skills. I hope to get involved with intramural sports programs, and rush to join a sorority in the spring. IMG_6370
