2015 has been one of the biggest years in my life. In the same year I transitioned from High School to College. I moved from Texas to go to school in Ohio. Over this year it is safe to say i have changed considerably as a person. Being in college has not only shown just how well i can function independently, but greatly broadened those skills. It has taught me over this year a greater sense of responsibility than I have had at any other point in my life. I have explored new ideas and new cultures that are available at The Ohio State University. I am so happy that over this school year I have been able to expose myself to new friends and foster friendships that I feel will last a lifetime. At the beginning of the year I started out with a major in International Studies and a minor in Russian. I have recently decided that I want to turn my minor into a second major. I am also looking forward to the opportunity to study abroad in Europe during my second year at college. My first year at college has been an adventure, and I hope that next year will surprise me in different ways.

My artifact for the 2015 school year is the Millennium Goals Project completed in Seminar Class. Our group focused on gender inequality in the Middle East. Particularly, I focused on the causes of gender inequality in this region, as well as the issue of gender pay equality. While completing research for this project i gained a significant amount of knowledge about the state of society in the Middle East. I learned that this state can widely vary among nation to nation, and the problems that these nations face are being caused for different reasons. I also learned that these nations suffer the same struggles that other countries across the world suffer, and in some cases, perform better. These problems include scarcity of resources, the problems of constant civil unrest due to war, and the lack of basic education. I learned that the pay gap is clearly present in the Middle east ranging from a 20-40% difference, and that it is estimated that it will take another 70 years for the gap to close. This project was important because it helped me better understand the conditions of a culture that is very much different than my own, and to build a better perspective about the social conditions of a group of people.
