RA position

In my sophomore year, I was hired as an RA in my residence hall. I plan to continue as an RA throughout my next two years of college. This photo is my very first bulletin board regarding move out and how to maintain physical and mental wellness during finals season.

A Year in Review

This past year was very unconventional as I spent most of my time on zoom for classes. Despite everything, I accomplished a lot of my goals and am ready to take on the next two years. In the beginning of first semester, I spontaneously decided to apply to be a Residence Advisor for the 2021-2022 school year. I was hired for a position, and I actually ended up being a mid-year hire for this past semester. In addition to my new leadership position within the residence halls, I began another position as social media chair of the Bio Sci Leadership Board. One of my goals in my freshman year was to be more involved on campus, and I feel as though I have definitely accomplished that throughout my sophomore year.

Semester in Review

A month into college, I became frustrated and very doubtful of myself. I had heard about how difficult General Chemistry 1210 could be, but I did not think it would affect me the way it did. I was having trouble balancing all of my work for chemistry with my other classes. Finally, I found a study group with a supplemental instructor for chemistry. In addition to tutoring, I began writing out a weekly and daily work schedule in order to practice prioritizing and get everything done on time. Looking back on my view on college 2 months ago, things have drastically changed. I have formed relationships with people around me and professors that I am extremely grateful for. In addition, I have even decided to add a minor in Spanish, which is a subject I have always enjoyed. The Ohio State University is full of many opportunities, and I plan to take advantage of as many as possible over the next three and a half years.

G.O.A.L.S.

  • Global Awareness: Global Awareness is being in-tune with the world around you and being culturally and socially aware. I plan to study abroad in order to become globally aware.
  • Original Inquiry: Original Inquiry is engaging in new opportunities in order to learn. An example of original inquiry is getting involved in different research opportunities.
  • Academic Enrichment: Academic Enrichment is utilizing the different resources around you in order to learn and achieve academic excellence. I have joined an SI group for Chemistry 1210. The group meets every Sunday and Tuesday in order to review the topics discussed in lecture. In addition, I have been going to office hours for my math class and chemistry class. Chemistry courses tend to be the most challenging for me, so I always attend office hours, review sessions, and participate in one-on-one tutoring.
  • Leadership Development: Leadership Development is taking on leadership positions/roles in order to improve leadership skills. I am currently a Discussion Leader for Bio Sci, the Social Media Chair for the Bio Sci Executive Board, and an RA on campus.
  • Service Engagement: Service Engagement is becoming more involved with the world around you. An example of service engagement is community service. Recently, I volunteered at Steps for Sarcoma, which was a run for sarcoma survivors or those who suffered from sarcoma.

My roommates and I volunteered to assist at the Steps for Sarcoma Walk, which consisted of handing out gifts to Sarcoma survivors, and we helped clean up after the event.

Career

In May 2019, I completed my senior project at a vet clinic in order to gain experience working with companion animals. I am currently an animal science major on the pre-vet track, so I am currently deciding between working with companion animals or horses.

Artifact #1: My Senior Project at Gasow Veterinary Clinic

I completed my senior project at Gasow Veterinary Clinic because I am an Animal Science major on the pre-veterinary track. Gasow Veterinary Clinic is located on Woodward Ave. in Birmingham, Michigan. Each day, I shadowed  doctors and veterinary technicians. The clinic is a walk-in clinic, which means there are no appointments, so each day was a surprise. In this photo, a lab was being treated for ‘hot spots’. I will definitely pursue a career within this field, and I am interested in specializing in orthopedics.
