Columbus To Do List part 2

For the remainder of my experiences for my Coffee and Tea themed list, I visited Mission Coffee, Fox in the Snow Café, The Roosevelt Coffeehouse, and Impero Coffee with Matt. In my opinion, my favorite experience was the first visit in this project with Matt and Juliet. This was my favorite experience, since I was able to chat with Juliet more and I was able to catch up with Matt. I learned that Columbus is a really diverse city with a hotspot for coffee shops that I hope I could work in one, someday. This experience kind of has influenced me to explore more about the different coffee shops in Columbus. I would recommend that you go around midday, if you want the least amount of people in the shop, but if you want the best experience, it would be in the morning or at night.

I went to visit the rest of these shops on a Saturday morning to midday. It took longer than I expected, since I am unfamiliar with the buckeye app and all the shops are around the short north district or close by it. The first one I went to on my journey was Mission Coffee. My experience was moderately okay, it was decently full, since it was in the morning. I ordered a regular tea, since I am not much of a coffee person. It was decently loud, but it was pleasant. I would recommend it for a friend, but the noises still bother me.

My next stop was the Fox in the Snow Café. I did not order anything in these next few shops, since I was not feeling to drink more caffeine that day. It had a pretty modern and sleek look to the design and architecture. There is a lot of monochrome colors as the background and a tannish color as the main focal point. The atmosphere felt a little more towards quick access and leaving, but that is in my opinion. Also, in my opinion, I would recommend this coffee shop, at least to get a taste of the atmosphere it was trying to create.

My next stop was The Roosevelt Coffeehouse. The shop kind of had a cozy feel to it, but it was not fully expanded. The tables are very close together and there is a counter top like table near the cashier. Not much really stood out, besides the random strength of coffee odor. In my opinion, I would not recommend the place too much, since it felt a little more cramped than some of the other coffee shops on the list.

My final visit in this project was at the Impero Coffee and overall, it felt like a generic coffee shop that you would see down the street. There was a lot of brown color coating around the store, from the furniture to the floor beds. In my opinion, I would not recommend the shop, since it overall felt like a generic coffee shop with no unique qualities about it.

RIASEC

Based off my RIASEC scale, I am an AIE. I am artistic, investigate, and enterprising when it comes to exploring career choices. In relation to my career exploration process, my RIASEC code somewhat matches my current career path, which is business, but I was thinking of going into computer science, since it lines up more with what I am passionate about. From completing the workshop, I have learned that I am artistic, investigative, and enterprising. From the artistic side, I prefer being imaginative, expressing myself, and being an opportunist. From the investigative side, I prefer working alone, learning new ideas, being independent, and being abstract. From the enterprising side, I am a leading figure, working on projects, being influential, loyal, a risk taker, and speaking aloud. Based off O*Net, some careers recommended to me are video game designer, computer and information systems manager, and film and video editor. In my opinion, O*Net seems to have recommended a job that I was already considering and it is in computer science, which is video game designer.

The video game designer path seems to be what I am considering more to follow, since it is something I am deeply passionate about and by taking classes in video game design, I can get into anime design too. I wanted to get into either of these careers, since I have been passionate about video games and animes for as long as I can remember. I enjoy watching animes and playing video games, so why not work on something that brings me joy. I can watch other people enjoy my work and interpret it in their own way or play it with their own style. I can go on and on why this would be the best path for me to follow, but the most prominent aspect is the skills that I can gain from going down this career path.

By going into video game designing, I gain skills in programming, being an active listener, complex problem solving, critical thinking, and reading comprehension. Some tasks that I would be assigned are balancing gameplay experiences, provide feedback to designers, creating core gameplay features, and guiding design team discussions. Some tools I would use would be an audioconferencing system, a fixed computer gaming console, notebook computer, mobile phone, and a scanner. I will be using many applications and software for developing environments, graphics or photo imaging, object or component orientation, and video creation and editing a lot for designing video games. Most of these skills, tools, tasks, and applications and software will be used if I were to go into graphic designs for anime too, which leaves me with more options to choose from. Furthermore, it is recommended that I get a Bachelor’s degree level in education to help getting a job from this career I have chosen, which brings um my state at Ohio State University at the moment.

My current career path does show up as a result of my code, but the requirements for being a finance major does not suit my passion, which lead me to follow the path of computer science. I am quite torn at the moment, whether to go for a computer science major, since I am not sure, if I will get a job right out of college, but that is some more stress for another time. I was thinking of doing a business major and then a computer science minor, but I will not be fully immersed in what I truly want to do. I could probably try to go for a computer science major and business finance minor, but I am not one hundred percent on that plan of action. I do hope that one day down the road I can get the chance to either work with A-1 Pictures for animation and designs in anime or Bethesda Softworks for video game designs. Both are big name companies in the anime and video game industry respectively. Some well-known animes created by A-1 Pictures include, Sword Art Online, The Asterisk Wars, Fairy Tail, and the most recent production was a short anime music video made with a collaboration with Porter Robinson and Madeon called “Shelter”. Some well-known Bethesda Softworks video games include, the Fallout series, the Elder Scrolls series, and the Dishonored series. If I can work with either company, then it would be a dream come true, especially since many of these animes and video games I remember watching and playing, while I was growing up. For now, my next step is to figure out what path I truly desire to follow and hoping I get a career in something I am passionate about.

Coffee, House, and Bar

photo-2

For my Columbus To Do List, I did the theme of Coffee and Tea. What I look forward to on this trip is finding new coffee shops to either try out or work at near campus, since I used to work at a coffee shop near my home in Hilliard. I hope to find a favorite coffee shop to relax and chill at with some friends, based off this assignment.

One experience I have had so far was the trip to the Coffee, House, and Bar with Juliet and Matt. We went to visit this coffee shop on a extremely warm day, even though it is already Autumn! I literally had a jacket and scarf on me, but I took off the scarf beforehand and kept the jacket on. We traveled a fair distance to get there, since we mostly walked there, but it was a nice time to chat and enjoy the breeze without being on a crowded bus. As we approach the shop, it was kinda hard for me to noticed, since I almost walked passed it and, but the place was decently busy. It was extremely warm inside, which I was not expecting and ordered an iced vanilla latte, while Juliet and Matt ordered an iced americano. It was good and I’m glad the coffee was not too strong. In my opinion, the most confusing thing for me was trying to read the menu, since it looked somewhat crowded and I have bad eyesight to begin with. I would not recommend this shop too much, since the temperature is a lot warmer than most people would expect it and the menu is decently hard to read, but that is to me.

Artifacts

For my Saplings Mentor meeting, I met with Marie McConnell. Marie is a sophomore in the ENR Scholars program and a major in Environmental Science. We met up at Connecting Grounds near the Fischer College of Business and we chatted for quite a while. It was a nice morning to sit down and talk at a coffee shop, especially since the aroma of the place helped wake me up a little bit. Now, the five questions I chose for the meet up were and a summary of each conversation topic:

Academics – How did you decide on the major you have chosen?

During this conversation, we talked about some experiences that led to Marie and I deciding on our major. Marie really enjoyed being outdoors and nature, so there was no reason for her to try a major in the science field. Environmental Science was not her first choice, but it was something she was more passionate about and a major that will make her more happy. I learned from this conversation to be more true to yourself and follow a career path that would make me happy for that career I have chosen.

Involvement – How have you chosen to get involved on Campus?

For Marie, she was part of a Global Climate organization that helped her get involved on campus. For me, I believe this would be the toughest one for me to actually do, since its harder for me to actually find involvement that would fit my schedule. I have many responsibilities outside of OSU, such as work and taking care of my grandparents, so finding time to join a club or organization is a  lot tougher for me. I do plan to join a club or organization and get more involved in the future, but for now, I’m content with the amount of involvement I am in.

ENR Scholars – What advice do you have for making the most of the ENR program?

The advice I was told by Marie to make the most out of the ENR program is to try new things and get out of my bubble. Sure being in my bubble is nice and content, but I will not be able to learn anything new, if I do not go out and try the new things. An example would be to go out and make more friends in the ENR program and try to find more time to do events with other ENR Scholars. I will in the future to keep this advice in mind when I go to events or talk to people I would not usually do in the ENR program. I just hope it is not too stressful…

Careers – What is your back up plan in case your first plan does not work out for some reason?

For Marie, she did not really say if she had one, but for now, it was another career in the science field. I believe it is always wise to have a back up plan in case something happens, such as being unable to advance further in your chosen field. At the same time, I can see where she is coming from, since life is like a sea with many waves. They come and go as they choose and you do not really get to pick, which waves washes onto your feet. Just go with the flow, but always have a inner tube, just in case. That is the best way I could have interpreted it.

Miscellaneous – What advice do you wish someone gave you your freshman year?

I think this conversation was the one that I was the most intrigued about, since it is very open and the advice could be for anything. In our conversation that we had, the advice Marie gave me was that it is okay to do bad or in some cases fail class. Well, not really fail, but drop a class or activity if it become too stressful or if it is making your life horrible. I am always worried about failing a class or doing bad on an assignment, since it is something I take to heart and it was something I had carried over from my years in high school. Marie has told me that dropping a class is something many will do and so is failing one. It just happens and it is a part of life. Your are not the only one going through this situation and you can probably find others to talk to about this situation, especially your peers. I learned to not worry too much about dropping or doing bad in a class, since I could always try to do better next time, but it is always better to try to get it right on your first try.

About Me

Hello everyone! I am Anusone Bounemany or Austin Bounemany, it does not matter which one you call me by. I graduated from Hilliard Darby High School, where I was apart of the choral and track and field programs. I’m not sure about joining any clubs in those hobbies, but I will continue singing and training in my past time. I am Laotian-American and Buddhist with two adorable little sisters named Lila and Eona. I am a business major and part of the ENR scholars. I’m not very sure what field I want graduate in business, but I’m taking a huge interest into finance, at the moment and I hope to run my own business one day. I took an interest into the ENR scholar program when I realize I got to work a lot with nature and help sustain the natural environment. I took an interest with nature when I was just a wee boy. I was very interested in animals and bugs back, which included prehistoric creatures as well, such as dinosaurs and the creatures before them. I would always read books about animals, to the point where I was able to identify them right off the top of my head when I was little. Nowadays, I’m a little rusty at identifying animals, but I do retain a bit of knowledge from back then. I hope by joining the ENR scholars, I would find ways to help the homes of many animals and bugs, while continuing my passion of learning about them. I enjoy taking walks out in nature, just to clear my mind and think about hoe my day has gone. I sometimes listen to music, while I walk just to help either keep me positive or awake throughout the day. Also, I tend to play quite a bit of video games and watch anime a lot in my free time. I hope this helped you learn a bit more about me!
