Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. G.O.A.L.S.

Original inquiry is one of my top priorities as a student because I want to be involved more in research within my major. I’d love to do hands-on projects with professors because I believe that this would give me necessary experience to help me with my future.  Whether it’s research or simply working on projects with others, working on new information and using my prior knowledge to help me with it is what I can hope to accomplish during my time here

Leadership development would be a great goal for me to focus on because leadership is a valuable skill that can set me apart from other students in the future.  In high school I was the captain of my lacrosse team for two years which helped me gain leadership skills in helping others exceed. I think I can combine leadership development and original inquiry which will help me become a better leader when working in groups for research and projects.

Career

[“Career” is where you can collect information about your experiences and skills that will apply to your future career.  Like your resume, this is information that will evolve over time and should be continually updated.   For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. solar-cell-presentation

For my project, I did a group presentation on solar energy cars.  We focused on the idea of how solar energy could be used to power car engines. We looked how solar energy could be implemented to power car engines and also what type of research has already been done on solar energy cars.  We chose this topic because as green house gases rise, we need to find ways to use renewable energy in daily activities and transportation. We found that an engineering team from Eindhoven University of Technology produced a car that could fit 4 to 5 people and travel over 600 miles on one charge. Another interesting fact about this specific car is that it produces more energy than it uses.

About Me

Hello, my name is Cole Botsford and I am a first year student in the Green Engineering Scholars program. I am from Los Altos, California and I am a pre-CSE major.  In my free time, I love to play lacrosse and roller hockey as well as the Xbox. When I first started high school, I was hoping to major in business like my brother and father. However, when I first toured both Facebook’s and Google’s Headquarters and learned all about the different types of engineering, I’ve wanted to study engineering since.  I believe that going through the computer science and engineering path gives me the opportunity to be creative and innovative by bringing my ideas and work to life and to the public someday.
